I am pro-choice because it sickens me to think of American women once again dying from illegal, botched abortions. We will never know for certain, but my mother suspects that my great-grandmother died of a botched abortion. And news flash, Religious Right: She was married, and churchgoing, and all the rest of it. But, if that's indeed what happened, I know she must have done it to protect both herself and the six children she was already struggling to support. She had a hard choice, but wouldn't it have been better if it had been a real choice--one which did not require her to risk her very life?
