"there are some dragons who were built to have and hold"

49,277 words in and i'm certain this story won't be done by 50,000 words. so, while nanowrimo has helped me get a great deal accomplished, the ultimate goal of completing said story that has been rattling around in the recesses of my noggin for nigh seven years has yet to be completed. i'll blaze until the death of november, but i'm realizing the road is still a long one that will be lengthened by the onslaught of the Christmas season (glorious as it may be).

so, looking back, what have i accomplished? well, besides having a very eventful month in which i managed to work full time (and not fall asleep at my desk -- mostly), consistently stay up until 1 or 2am most nights, maintain a social life on weekends saturated with tea and good company, and keep a modicum of sanity, i have written about a submerged city, bike riding, a disillusioned, pipe-smoking mermaid, an enchanted pie plate, a dragon (it's not a respectable fantasy without one, kids!), a raving oracle that is not as crazy as one might think, pirates (always a plus!), a mildly insane princess (in the next draft she'll be dottier, i think), a malignant meadow (i've wanted one since 2001, you just brought it back to my attention, goutwort) and i've just killed my main character. i feel really bad about it and i honestly don't know how the antagonist will get his comeuppance for that one...

it's been fun.

i think i need to focus on art next month. lots and lots of juicy art. maybe animating more of "the mariner's revenge song" -- though i like to work at that when i have large amounts of spare time (december is never full of that).

as for work, our department had team building with the finance department this afternoon. we went curling! we had a blast! first it was our group against the finance group (we tied in that game) and then it was girls against boys (we won because we possessed finesse). i am also now the proud owner of a beautiful plum-coloured bruise on my right knee (too much collapsing on the ice after throwing the rock, i fear). it will look great for the company Christmas party on saturday!

we went to the nearby pub for supper and, among other things, discussed who of us had criminal records and for what. unfortunately, i could not participate actively in this part of the conversation.

that's about it for now. final wordcount goes up tomorrow.

p.s. - mediocrefashion... what do you want to be in your blatant cameo? do i have creative license to make you a good guy or a bad guy? any preference?
