Does romance kill a show?

I was reading an article today about one of the many shows I'm in love with and it was talking about how romance plots end a show, that getting two characters together spells the end of the show. I don't agree with this but it got me thinking about all the new shows that I watch and comparing them to the old ones and I realised there really is a ( Read more... )

Muchly agree. Shows are just.. different now. I mean, some of my ships are actually canon(!!). Which is odd considering how many of my older ships never got to that point despite so much longing and yearning and angsting and exchanges of looks. There are good and bad things about that. It's.. yeah. Different.

Quite a few of my ships are canon too which is great, more heart melting and less hair pulling. I sometimes think that, especially shows with shorter seasons, that they get the characters together too quickly, they miss out on so many great story lines and on making fans pull their hair out in frustration, which let's face it, was a part of the journey we loved too.

I lost track of how often I wanted to bash Jack and Sam's heads together, or John and Elizabeths, or Janeway and Chakotays ect. These ships never got together in all the years I watched them but they're still my all time favourite ships.
