I was reading an article today about one of the many shows I'm in love with and it was talking about how romance plots end a show, that getting two characters together spells the end of the show. I don't agree with this but it got me thinking about all the new shows that I watch and comparing them to the old ones and I realised there really is a lot of difference. I kinda miss the way it used to be, particularly with sci-fi shows. I miss full seasons, to me that means twenty something episodes in a season, but that is happening less and less, a lot of shows now have about thirteen episodes, I've watched a couple that only have six. I miss romance story lines that last for season after season, that pull you along on a frustrating journey that makes you fantasise far too often about locking them in a confined space until they get a clue. The ones that melt your heart at times and makes you mad at the people who get in the way (never thought I'd miss one episode flings).
There's a balance though, these long drawn out romances are amazing but there's a point somewhere along the line where the frustration becomes annoyance and you just want them to get together already. I think at this point not getting them together can be bad for the show and I don't think it spells the end. I think it gives the characters a new way to develop, a new part of them to explore and whole lot of new story lines to play with.
I really feel like a marathon of all my old favourites now.
