✢ The Character
Character Name: John also known as Handy also known as Metacrisis Ten
Fandom: Doctor Who
Canon Point: Post Journeys End, John was left behind on the beach by the Doctor after his act of mass genocide on the Daleks. The Doctor saw him as unsafe and left him with the Tyler family so he could adapt to humanity and work with Rose to adapt to his new life. John will be taken six months into these events.
Age: Technically he's only been alive for six months but he's has memories of living over nine-hundred years, who appears in the form of a man in his mid thirties. So it all very complicated, but for the sake of normalcy, he claims to be 36
Appearance: Hedgehog Hair, puppy dog eyes, lanky frame, large mouth and blue suit with a red tie. Red converse also.
View here Abilities / Powers: Technically John had no real powers and the only thing superhuman about him is the knowledge in his head, his skills with technology and what he knows of time and space. He also knows several important equations for things such as time travel and inter-dimensional travel as well as a vast knowledge of history and the world. He has knowledge of time, space and the universe thanks to the Time Lord part of him. His all round talent with technology and general facts spans from his past knowledge, only limited by his human side.
Inventory:The clothes he's wearing.
A partially broken sonic screwdriver.
His glasses
A wallet - contains the free address cards that came with it and the price tag.
Personality: John Smith is very much like his Time Lord counterpart, he's friendly, enthusiastic, respectful of the universe and any worlds within said universe and he can display moments of all round brilliance. He does have a tendency to go on a bit and talk peoples heads off but its all a part of his charm. His friendly nature is instinctive, with odd quirks that may seem off to most humans but go unnoticed by the man himself. He doesn't hate or loath in general, he tends to be patient and understanding. Though, he doesn't take kindly to betrayal or deceit and much like the tenth regeneration of the Doctor, he doesn't offer many second chances.
While he gets a lot of his traits from the Doctor, he does have a lot of traits from Donna Noble. Most obvious one being his tendency to be quite loud and rude, generally in an unintentional manner, he blurts out things without thinking and doesn't consider the consequences. Along with her brash demeanour, he seems to of taken on some of her insecurities, particular when it comes to how he stands with the world. Being between both human and Time Lord, its obvious he doesn't exactly fit properly anywhere and with his once flawless mind now housed in a human brain, he often worries about his own intellect failing him. He still remembers being the Doctor perfectly and losing that life wasn't easy, the only thing he really has over humans is his intellect.
It still seems somewhat foreign to him to be on par with humanity, leaving him at a distance with people in that respect. Though he does greatly appreciate and respect humans much more now since experiencing the difficulties of their lives, that doesn't mean that he sees himself as necessarily one of them. As the Doctor, he spent a long time as a protector who walks among them and therefore its his job to watch over those around him. Its a hard habit to break and he still sees himself as above them. Even if he is no longer beyond humanity, he acts as if he is which leaves him as an outsider.
Although he can come across as fairly worldly and wise, he has a tendency to be somewhat naive and oblivious at times. Often he's utterly unaware of others feelings towards him. With no specific interest in such a thing, it tends to go right over his head as do most of the basic human interest and concepts, such as enjoying a domestic lifestyle and embracing time in its linear form. As someone whose lived for over nine hundred years travelling and seeing the world, adjusting to life as a human proves to be both fascinating, frustrating and confusing at times. He doesn't like to show his own weaknesses, especially not in front of someone like Rose, so he often puts on a happy face. He wants to keep up a confident appearance and refuses to show his own insecurities.
His Time Lord side gives him access to knowledge that many humans couldn't even comprehend. However his logic and genius is somewhat hindered by his human side that will act more on emotions than facts. John was born in the heat of battle and he's more destructive and harsher than the Doctor, quick to violence and dangerous solutions instead of a more pacifist alternative. Unlike the Doctor, his morality is flexible at times and he isn't above taking a utilitarian stance of his actions. He has all the wisdom, talent and brilliance of a Time Lord but the irrational emotional responses of a human, leading his decisions to be rather conflicted. John is constrained by how he feels in a situation and tends to work on gut feeling while the Doctor would act more upon the knowledge and his own personal morality.
History:
History is here! First Person Sample: Alright, ow. That definitely hurt. [There's a noise that's definitely someone moving in the background, the device being fumbled between hands.] Yep, just double checked, that's pain alright and not-- oh. Oh! It worked. It actually worked!
--Didn't it? Were we aiming for America? Never mind, it worked and erm, wait -- Rose? Rose, are you listening?... Where'd you go? [Of course, it took him long enough to realise she wasn't there, course that didn't stop him from talking away at himself. Though his voice drops into a small murmur.] Course you aren't, you're not around. Well, probably around... or vapourish from the travel. Oh that isn't good, hopefully its not the latter.
[There's definitely noise of shoes scuffing on the ground as John starts to move along... well, wherever he is]
Helloooo! Anyone out there? I'm friendly, promise. I'm just a bit lost and honestly, I don't know how to play baseball so I'm rather useless here.
Third Person Sample: He'd decided about a week into his new life that the worst part about all this was the sleep. Eight hours minimum?! Who needs Eight hours sleep? Time Lords function on one, if that, and it was perfect. Now, he was mortal and sleeping away about half of his life. It didn't make any sense, he lived a shorter life with more sleep? Where was the logic. And worst of all, if he didn't sleep right, well, he was tired all day and his co-ordination was dreadful.
It was no wonder that so many humans feared death, considering the vast amount of time that had to be wasted. Going to the bathroom, eating, drinking, shopping and working. They all ate up time that could of been used for so much more. Or so he believed but it seemed almost impossible to utilise the time he had when he had nothing to do. Living a pace by pace life in a linear time line was boring. There was no way around it, it was boring.
Sure he was still technically travelling through time but not fast enough. He wanted to go faster, he had plans too. Which is when he got the rather 'bright' spark that he could possibly find a way out of here. It wasn't that he hated the company, just the life. All the rules and regulations and restriction. Blah! He couldn't do it. And, out of that little spark, a rather simple idea, such as breaking down solid objects into light waves and transmit them from one place to another, creating a sort of teleportation device was formed. It was much easier than raising the vibration of the molecules in his body to a high enough rate to be able to move though matter. It had worked before, in essence, why wouldn't it now? He'd even modelled it after the T-MAT he'd stolen from the Torchwood hub and torn apart to get the parts for this. Sure that was meant for freight transport but he could make it work! Just took a little tinkering and fiddling with the odd bit of prodding.
"Right then, lets try this again," John addressed his imaginary audience as he held up a fairly scrappy piece of machinery with a proud smile on his face. It was go time. "Allons-y."
