Bad parenting advice administered via Facebook via a "friend" you haven't see since you wore Buster Browns and Tuffskins should be taken with a grain of salt

I am in semi-contact on Facebook with a girl I went to school with from kindergarten through high school (although we were never close). She had baby at 30 weeks gestation, and was just doing an amazing job contending with his special needs: living in the residence attached to the Childrens Hospital PICU so she could nurse and express milk for him around the clock, doing the whole "kangaroo care" thing. Basically, a lot of exhausting, time-intensive stuff that I wouldn't have predicted she would be able to withstand.
So. Now Baby is eight weeks old, and received clearance to come home. But he had to have some minor (in the grand scheme of things) surgical procedure before he was discharged from the hospital. Maybe a hernia repair? Anyway, the mom's Facebook status update was like, "__________ is excited to welcome Baby home after his [procedure] and circ today!"
Clearly, I keep myself far too sequestered, because I was flabbergasted -- even though this is still an incredibly common practice (for non-religious reasons; she's Catholic, by the way) in the general population. She's been through so much that I have to reserve judgment. But you know who else has been through a lot? That tiny, little two-month-old baby who wasn't even supposed to be born yet! Give the kid a break!
