So it is 2:38am and i am still awake. I guess this is expected after a night out with Annie and pong with Geoff and his friends. But, because i can't sleep, you all will get a long, exciting update.

Last week at this time, I was in Raliegh, North Carolina. I left on Wednesday and flew into Raliegh late evening. I rented a car and made my way to my cousin's house. I took him out for a birthday dinner to this little, organic restaurant by North Carolina State University (where my cousin works. The food was cheap and delicious. We called it an early night seeing as how i had been traveling all day and he had to work in the morning.

Thursday, my first entire day in NC, I went to Duke for a PA Orientation program. I was amazed by the technology and healthcare Duke offered, but I was not impressed by their PA program. Even if i get an interview down there, which is a long shot, I do not think I will take it. I absolutely love the area Duke is in but I didn't like the structure of their program. At this PA day, i met a girl who went to University of North Carolina. She informed me it was only 20 minutes away and gave me some good places to see on campus and stores to visit on their 'main' street.

After our orientation, i drove 2 minutes up to Duke's main campus ( we were on the medical part all day). The campus was very secluded, placed on a hill in this small wooded area. I was amazed at the beauty of it. I took pictures (see end of entry), but i dont think they really justify how gorgeous this campus was. I have always said IU is the most beautiful campus, but Duke beat it. The Duke Chapel was the most amazing part. It was huge and had all these wings coming off of it that they used for classes. There was some kind of graduation ceremony going on when i was there so i wasn't able to go inside, but the outside was wonderful enough. I walked around the rest of campus, saw the athletic complex including the basketball arena. The arena looked like an academic building and inside, it looked like a highschool court. I couldn't believe that is where the top-ranked Duke played their home basketball games. Very cool, nonetheless.

Upon leaving Duke, I headed up to UNC. Their "kirkwood" was called Franklin Street and it was awesome. There were some chain coffee and restaurants, but also a lot of unique shops including about 4 bookstore type shops with UNC gear. I walked to one part of campus. There was a huge courtyard which was beautiful. Surrounding the courtyard were academic buildings. All the buildings looked very historic and many, looked like old plantation homes. I think i was intrigued by UNC because i have a fascination with the southern way of life and their historical architecture. I loved everything i saw and I was enthralled by the buildings. While at UNC, i also saw their famous well. I am not sure the full story behind it, but it was a gazebo looking thing that was apparently the historic well. I took pictures because it was neat.

Third, i ended my Thursday night by stopping by the NCState athletic complex to take some photos of the football and basketball arena. NC State's campus was gorgeous as well, but it actually reminded me a lot of Bowling Green State University with the way things were set up and the style of the buildings.

Next, I met Phil and his friend visiting from Connecticut, at Phil's favorite Sports Bar. We chatted, talked a lot about family and the lives the grandchildren were leading. His friend was a neat person too. He works for ESPN and is one of the people in charge of running, editing, and deciding what goes on the ticker that runs across the bottom of the screen. Very interesting.

After the sports bar, we went back, cleaned up, and headed out to the NCState bar district. Again, the street was comparable to our Kirkwood, except all the men in the bars looked twice my age. The girls looked young, but the men seemed much older. Good for Phil and friend, bad for me, haha. We started at an irish pub and had a great time. I gave them some pointers and they enlightened me about single life after 25. They actually glorified it and almost persuaded me to be single forever. But I will only be single if I have career guys like my cousin and his friend buying me drinks, haha. I did not pay for one drink that night because the boys treated me like a true lady. It was awesome.

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. I left Friday morning, traveled all day, got back to Indy late afternoon. I did some damage to the bank account by visiting the Gap, then i headed to David's for a chill evening.

Saturday afternoon, i ventured to Pendleton where I met up with Amanda. That night, her, Matt, and I began Fall off on the right foot with a trip to a haunted house, haunted hayride, and haunted cornmaze. Highlights from the night are as follows:

-Matt attempting to push Amanda out of a moving vehicle. We find out that even though the doors say the are locked, they still open. Thankfully, we still have an Amanda
-Matt's new hair do
-annoying 13 or maybe 16 year olds
-Corn maze that we thought Matt could handle, but alas, he informed us he didn't do so well in his Marine Land Navigation Class (later, we found out the map was on GoogleWorld, haha)
-the broken chainsaw that Matt encouraged back to life
-doughnuts!
-lots and lots of lovely pumpkins
-Kettle Corn which the guy refilled because Alex had a St. Louis shirt on, oh i love the folk
-Amanda, her apples, and bees, enough said
-Quotes of the weekend:

"Prime it, prime it, prime it, prime it, choke it a little, prime it, prime it. RUN! HE'S GOT A CHAINSAW!!"~Matt Wright :-)

"It was the best when Matt started RANNING"-Amanda
"That's not a word!"-Matt
"It just came out sooo naturally"-Holly

"You don't remember how to get there but you know where the Taco Bell is?!"-Matt to Amanda

"Scarecrows don't bark, but your mom sure does"
"Someone Google Earth this maze so we can get out!"

Amanda: Matt, did you know Holly and you have the same birthday?
Matt: Yeah, but that doesn't mean you can buy us one gift
Holly: Yeah, that would be kind of hard to share
Amanda: Not if i bought you a box of condoms, you could do a lot of sharing

Sunday morning, Amanda woke up early and bought us doughnuts. She is an awesome hostess, thanks amanda!! Then, we met up with her friend Alex and took our second annual trip to the pumpkin patch. It was just as wonderful as the first time, and even a little better, because the selection of pumpkins was enormous. I bought 4 of them and plan on carving them in the near future. I hate the transition to cold weather that Fall brings, but I love the month of October for doing such things as pumpkin hunting, hayrides, and haunted houses. Huge shout out and thank you to Amanda for being wonderful. I had a great time and can't way until you come to B-town!!! Also, thanks to Matt for the entertainment and finding our way out of the maze.

Finally, today marked the end of my first round of exams. I did not do very well on any of them, but I have been doing really well on homework assignments and lab write-ups. I am trying to get more motivated to study harder and really nail this semester. If not, at least the good grades will even out with the poor test scores and keep my GPA steady. Also, this week, I have spent a lot of time with a certain someone, the old friend i mentioned in the previous journal entry. I know it can't go anywhere and won't go anywhere, but I am having trouble keeping myself detached. Like I told my old friend Val tonight, it is hard to think logically with the brain, when the heart speaks so much louder. For now, I will continue being friends and only friends. I can't let myself get closer and hurt myself like i did in the past. We have such a complicated history, that I am also thinking about just ending communication with this person all together in attempts to make things easier on myself. At the same time, I feel like i should enjoy every moment i have with this person now, since I will no longer see him after i leave in May. It is even possible, he may leave sooner. I keep going back and forth with what i should do and what is right to do. I am this person's date to a wedding next weekend. I am thrilled, but i think that may be the last time I talk with him. Of course, i have said that before and here i am, close to where i started. He has grown up and i have grown wiser, but i still know that nothing will come of this 'friendship' we have now, so i have to accept that and enjoy life.

Ok, this entry was ridiculously long, but it was also delayed in being written. I must get some sleep because two of my favorite alumni are coming to town tomorrow!! It is also homecoming weekend which means parade, great legal tailgating, football game, and bars!!! I am sooo excited. Expect an update soon and lots of pictures. For now, check out
