Warning: Shameless fangirling ahead.
A few months ago, around October, I was feeling depressed about Utada Hikaru's recent hiatus announcement and about music in general. I honestly felt no one could fill that music gap in my life that I felt only she could fill, even though I listen to a bunch of other artists.
Then...
I found out about an idol group called AKB48 by lurking around aramatheydidnt (Japanese pop culture news community), mostly because of their PV released a few months prior, ヘビーローテーション (Heavy Rotation), that was causing a lot of buzz because it is very fanservice-y, though I loved from the first time I watched it. This was the PV that got me into AKB48. Seriously; the colors, the dance, the super catchy song, the awesomely cute outfits, the carefree-ness, ...the kissing XD. (You can watch the PV here, but yeah major fanservice warning.) Honestly, I fell in love and I don't mind. And they are more than just fanservice. They are many girls with many different personalities who are truthful and carefree and who spread hope. This is what they are to me anyway. Super cheesy yes, but I love cheese. ♥

I honestly have them to thank for my somewhat carefree nature now and my new outlook on life and music in general. They filled that gap and then some. They are now my second favorite artist(s) overall.
And now (the reason I made this post)... as a full blown AKB48 fan...

I learn they now recently share a spot (2 actually) on the best 1st week sales for singles in Japan, below my first love (see what I did there) Utada Hikaru. And I'm just so overrun with joy; I almost feel like crying. And it certainly helps that they are the only females on the list. XD
