And what else is new? Many things, I turned eighteen on the 22nd. Yaay. And I bought the whole Saint Seiya TV series on DVD for a ridiculously low price. As expected, the subtitles do suck arse, but who needs those? They always say the exact same things anyway...
I have watched episodes 86-93 with my brother in the last couple of days, because he insisted. I'd rather watch StS alone, though, because up until now, the over-tragic background stories of the Asgård warriors have brought me to the verge of tears every time... Which is really embarrassing, since it's
A) Saint Seiya, it's stupid
B) Asgård, it's bloody filler
which leads it to being
C) St Seiya filler, so it's REALLY stupid.
Sure, the script-writers have really overdone it with these guys (and so have the animators O_O), but you know, the seiyuu... (You knew it was coming!)
Mitsuya Yuuji as Mime, first of all. BRILLIANT. I'm sure this was one of the best performances he has ever done. The confusion, the frustration...! Beautiful. Secondly, Mizushima Yuu as Syd and Bud. INGENIOUS. I have to especially mention the skill with which he played Syd when he "died". Had someone actually punched him in the stomach or something? He was so convincing, so credible! And the way he played the troubled Bud, moving from the "I'm evil and I hate that sorry excuse for a brother" phase to the "I don't like him, I don't, I don't, I don't, I'm evil!" to the "I can't kill him, I love him!" Usually, a change like that would take a turn to the comical... But Mizushima could do it seriously. That's no talent folks, that's art.
I think that it is the actors' interpretations of these characters that, in the end, make them so touching. They make them beliavable, which is required for being touching. I have actually grown very fond of the Asgård warriors! They're not even as ugly as they were when I first saw them (well, maybe some of them are... Fenrir and Thor definately should keep their helmets on, and Hagen needs help).
I also liked the plot twist concerning Alberich; he was, besides Mime, your usual pretty boy, so I was expecting his background to be of ultimate angst. But it wasn't! He was evil, he just wanted to be. I think that's really cool. The cutie of the group is also the vicious, heartless bastard of the group. Although, his techniques were ridiculous... And he was defeated very ridiculously too. Poor Shiryuu gets no proper screen-time.
So, only Siegfried left - and Hilda, I suppose. Soon I'll be off to Poseidon!
I'm hungry.
