Snowflake days 12-13 (indluding a fannish meme)

Day 12: In your own space, create your own challenge.

I've tried this with year-round challenges before, and, except for the Community Souced Reading Bingo, which was a lot of fun, that seems too large scale. So I think this time around Iwant to try something immediate, like a meme. Through the confluence of talking about universe fursions with

I ended up with two hard copies of Sorcerer to the Crown -- and I've been wanting to read it for quite a few years now -- so I better get to it, finally!

And, ooh! I've thought about a lot of RoL crossovers, but not thins one, I think. Let's see!

Nightingale strikes me as a Stark. I'm not sure it's even his personality, but he's got this whole "last shield against a threat no-one thinks is real" thing going on, and he's the sort to both use his considerable personal power to protect others -- but also with the ruthlessness to remove those he sees as a threat to the society he is protecting very decisively -- but in a very “The man who passes the sentence should swing the sword" kind of way, you know? It's tricky, because we only see him through Peter's eyes, and so mostly in a professional capacity and in the present day, with just glimpses of what he was like when younger, but I don't think anything we've seen would rule out Stark? And I do think Starks can be adventurous and interested in learning and all that. (Arryn might also be an OK match, but we see so few Arryns in the books that it's hard to sort there.)

Peter, now. Peter is an idealist, so I was able to rule out Lannister and Tyrell right away. Oh, and Greyjoy is right out, obviously. Peter doesn't have have "Winter Is Coming"-driven ruthlessness to be a Stark (I mean, he would totally see the Wildlings beyond the wall as people rather than a threat; hell, he'd probably see the Others as people, potentially), and he doesn't have Targaryen's benevolent high-handedness. Tully just doesn't feel right -- he's not domestically or familially focused enough. I think what I'm left with is Martell, which was my original gut feel, but I wanted to make sure it really was the best fit given that Martells are sort of the "foreigner" house. But, no, I think he really is a Martell -- they tend to have a sort of down-to-earth cynical idealism, and are interested in learning (Sarella/Alleras and Oberyn's studying at Oldtown) but mostly in a pragmatic way. It doesn't feel totally spot on, but I can't think of anything better...

Oh yes I think Martell is a good fit for Peter. I think they also have a slightly different attitude towards family/family loyalty than the rest (not bad-different, just...idk I guess they can be very fierce but on occasions also very pragmatic and I guess that's also very Peter)

Oh, good point about family! You're right, Martells do seem to have a somewhat different take on family than the others -- important, but complicated, but without the rampant Daddy Issues that the Lannisters are subject to, and that feels right for Peter.
