December ramble meme, day 2: Raven Cycle poems (WHY?!)

Dec 02, 2015 17:50

Oh my god, so ikel89 CHALLENGED me to write a Gansey poem, throwing out the following ideas: "I want a Gansey poem :D :D :D Make it as ironic as you want: Gansey writing a sonnet to Dead Welsh King boyfriend, or idk, a set of haikus where all cast members sing odes to Gansey (I'm especially looking forward to Ronans XD), or anything, really ( Read more... )

i can't believe your last tag is a thing that exists XD ikel89 December 3 2015, 07:59:55 UTC
YOU ARE CLEARLY THE BEST THAT'S WHAT YOU ARE :D :D :D
I would totally say that the poems are the best ronan boys fic out there, but then again, there is the priceless commentary to the poems, и боже мой, все такое вкусное :D (now, try telling me I don't have the best ideas?)

Of course this turned into everybody writing poems about Gansey.
Of course. It's not like the book isn't the same thing, except in purple prose :D

This limerick also has no punchline, which feels apt.
XD XD I think this is my favourite comment of yours re:Gansey's piece, but I was also thinking that limerick would probably be his form for himself, because self-deprecation and ha ha funny and he really really doesn't want to be a real-life sestina :D (also, pffft anticlimacting ending. i'm sure it's some A+ premonition for book 4)

Decoupe is SUCH A NEAT IDEA for Blue, and she would totally actually cut the stuff out on paper and arrange it in a hipster collage.

When it came to Adam, I clearly lost my fucking mind. Like, you guys, you think the glyoxylate ( ... )

Your reaction to these is very, very gratifying! :DD

You have a point, haha!

I was also thinking that limerick would probably be his form for himself, because self-deprecation and ha ha funny

Oh, very neat to hear! The limerick came first, but it's been my default form for fannish doggerel for a while now (it's short, and the name thing in the first line usually just hands you a hook -- it's good at providing its own prompt, basically), but it does feel like a very fitting form for Gansey on himself.

she would totally actually cut the stuff out on paper and arrange it in a hipster collage

She would! :D (I think you need a longer poem for decoupe to really work, but I couldn't see Blue reaching for, IDK, "Rime of the Ancient Mariner", or keeping at it long enough. But after I'd carefully avoided including any of the instances of "love" in the sonnet, there really weren't that many words left to choose from :P

the repetetiveness makes it look like a magic ( ... )

I am to please! And sponsor the best ideas, of fucking course *preens*

Btw, tomorrow evening we have a get-together в широком составе at my house (including Danya and Z, and I'm doing not nastilniki or whatever they were called XD блинчики, в общем!), and I must remember to flaunt my Kavinksy T-shirt XD

But after I'd carefully avoided including any of the instances of "love" in the sonnet, there really weren't that many words left to choose from :P
Also agree that she wouldn't do anything as trite as including the L-word in her poem, yus :D

I, in turn, surprised you read the whole thing, considering it was Adam POV and a sestina
My commitment in Adam is about on the same level as pacing in Blue Ronan, Ronan Blue, but I clearly know how to be impressed with literary effort, so I read it, yes XD But I'm laughing hysterically at "It all just starts to sound like that "Chicken chicken? Chicken! Chicken chicken." powerpoint presentation after a while. " - what is that even?

Adam thinks of dirt a whole lot in the booksYour commitment ( ... )

Haha, I'm glad I've managed to at least confuse your terminology XD

You should totally wear your Kavinsky shirt -- ideally while making said !nalistniki, as a further scene from the Kavinsky domesticity AU. :D

Blue Ronan, Ronan Blue

*snerk*

And: Chicken chicken chicken

and Laurent's poetry would be bitchy and in-your-face structured, I bet :D:D :D) And all the Greek hexameter for DamenOh god, not hexameter, I don't think I can do hexameter... (but you're right, that's of course what Akielon poetry would be) Laurent, oh, he would have super-formal bitchy poems, very precise. I also think maybe... I don't think there's actually a formal name for this, or if there is, I don't know it, but poems that lead you to expect one rhyme and then substitute for it by varying the rhyme scheme from the expected. I actually know it from dirty Russian verses, you know ( ... )

I don't even know who these people are, but I'm so impressed by all the poetry you pulled off about them. I know when I've tried to write fic in poem form, or some other poetic-based tripe, it's taken me AGES, and a lot of referencing the rhyming dictionary. :P

The idea of cutting up a poem and rearranging the words into something new, sort of like magnetic poetry - that's a neat idea, and not one I'd heard of before.

glyoxylate sonnet

Gesundheit. (aka: what the...?)

ETA: Yay, I finally caught up!

Aww, thank you! :D

I'll admit some of these (the $#%&@ sestina) were harder than others, but overall they came together very easily. I guess I find it easier these days to write poems to prompts, and fanfic-type poems work the same way. :)

That's how I think of it, too :) I actually learned about it on LJ, when one of my flisters (jaelle_n_gilla) was doing April Poetry Month (write a poem a day to specific prompts), and that was one of the prompts. It's not my sort of thing, but it is EXACTLY the sort of thing I see this character doing -- in canon she does a lot of recycled art and wears upcycled clothing -- so I was very glad I could reach for it as an option :)

LOL! The sonnet in the previous post :D People seemed mostly impressed that I managed to fit glyoxylate in there as a rhyming word, which is something the character from whose POV I'm writing talks about trying to do in canon :)

*slow claps*

Well, that was... something else entirely XDD I can't believe you actually went and wrote all of these, much amaze. I agree that the commentary is priceless -- and I'm sure that "Gansey was like a limerick without a punchline" or "Adam's true form was a sestina" are lines that could with great plausibility be inserted into book4 with great success and none being the wiser that it's utter mockery. If you do end up sending it to the author, please share if she replies at all looool.
