weird fur loss thing :(

Hi hamster friends,

I need some advice on Harriet. But first I will post a cute lil video of Hoots eating seeds, and some cute pics of Harriet stuffing her pouch full of treats!

oh poops the video wont upload. I will try it again tomorrow... In the meantime here is a picture of Hoots having explorings on my table.

Anyway, on to the important thing...

Some of you might remember that a while back Harriet had a little lump on her underside near her special area. I took her to the vet and they said it was most likely a fatty lump. They could do tests, which would cost a couple hundred dollars, but even if the tests came back saying she had cancer there wasn’t anything they could do to treat it. So they said just to monitor it.

Anyway I got back from vacation last week (I had two friends hamster sit for me) and when I got back I noticed that Harriet’s leg looked weird. She doesn’t have fur on it anymore at the bottom. You know how when hammies stand up it looks like they have furry pantaloons on? Well one side is furry and the other is like a weird scrawny chicken leg.

Here are some pics to show you what I mean:

I tried to check to see if there were any bumps but her skin is so thin and pink and she gets all squirmy when I try to check and I couldn’t tell if it was normal organs or bumps or anything. The fur loss was not just on the leg but the area up around it a bit also.

She seems ok otherwise, still sleeping a lot, but she always has. She is eating and drinking and pooing and peeing normally and at night she comes out and plays and moves stuff around, runs on her wheel and whatnot.

I made a vet appt for her for Saturday but I am not sure if I should take her. The appt is expensive and there isn’t anything they can really test for. She doesn’t seem to be in any discomfort. (If she were I would have her treated or put to sleep) I read on here that sometimes hammies lose fur as they age. She should be about a year and a half now. I also wiped the area with some warm water in case it is dry skin. But it doesn’t feel like that.

Anyway, have any of you experienced anything like this? Do you think I should take her to the vet again or would it be a waste of money and a stressful time for her, and just keep watching her to make sure she acts normally?

I get so worried about her. She seems so delicate and fragile compared to Hoots.
Thanks in advance!!
