I have a black and white dominant spot hamster named Godai. He is about twenty-one months old and has started showing some signs of old age (especially in his coloring). He is a dear (falls asleep in the crook of my neck all the time), but I've noticed something with his toenails lately. They're very long. Even when I trim them, within a week or so they're back to the previous length. I've never seen nails grow so quickly and I do worry about him. Anyone else seen this happen? If so is there anything I should be watching for (I can't imagine it being a symptom of anything but you never know), or is it just some weird fluke?
You can see how long his toenails are. The back ones are even starting to curl. We trimmed them after taking this photo. Oh and the lump in his cheek is a bit of food so that is unrelated.
