The last couple days I wrote something. Then I attempted to add pictures to it. LJ didn't like it and erased my entry in the process. Probably user error in the mix, but their autosave feature doesn't exactly appear to be doing its job. As such, it's ended in a couple of days worth of frustration.
Of course then there is exhaustion. Saturday bike ride took on about 80 miles, with 9000ft vertical. That would be over 10000ft vertical but then my knee started twinging. Not willing to deal with knee problems this close to a travel race, I begrudgingly went home. Sunday was similar in nature, but the start was less brutal, 60 miles and 7000ft of vertical later, my knee was fine. I got home in time enough to go for an easy hike and escape the valley heat with the girl.
Prep work continues into this week, intensity goes up. Next week will be hell to pay in Baker City, OR. Last time I had this level of nervous excitement before a race was lining up for my first crit three years ago.
Saturday was the first time in some time I had dinner with my grandma (affectionately called Granny, or Nanny...since I didn't have the ability to pronounce a hard 'G' until I was 5). Dinner was nice. Visiting my grandpa while at their house was utterly depressing. He's nearing 90, and for the past year has pretty much been confined to a single room. This is someone who was a merchant marine from 1942-1953, serving in the Pacific and Korea. Travelling extensively for work as a carpenter/contractor, and is now stuck confined to a single room approximately 8ft x 10 ft. His mind is a bit mushy, but has moments of clarity, he talked about refinishing hardwood floors with me after I showed him pictures. Asked about progress on the house. Was able to talk with him for 30 minutes or so about a year ago about his travels while in the service. But for the most part, doesn't react much and watches TV. If he lasts another year I'll be impressed, or confused, the boredom would have done me in about two years ago, but that generation is made of stubbornness and much stronger stuff.
Spotty weather has slowed progress on the yard, but all the underground lines are marked, so everything is back on me, officially at this point. Thankfully long daylight hours will make faster work of slicing things down.
Then, our fridge broke. Which also coincides with my bank account being...well...I'm paycheck to paycheck for the time. We garnered a lot of money for an epic vacation from our wedding, which I've been adding to as I can, but a decent chunk of that is going to a new fridge. Much less exciting. It's that or some ridiculous-dangerous financing option, both option will be weighed. Being an adult still sucks.
Whiny entry.
Thankfully tonight is speedskating. Hanging around with a mix of teenagers and adults does well for letting you forget you are an adult for a while.
Because this is stupid amounts of fun and it's never hot in an ice rink:
Coming out of a corner in a relay about to shove someone into the action.
