how I am more useful than Congressional Republicans, days 10-15

Oct 16, 2013 16:17

Due to leaving town for several days, I didn't have time to update LJ, nor even read a whole lot of it. Having returned, it's time to catch up on a few things, including nearly a week's worth of documentation of how I was more useful than Congressional Republicans! These were previously posted to FB (easier to get to from my phone than LJ), so all I have to do is copy and paste.

Days 10-13:
  • Driving to NYC, spending time with jiapa and her twins (thank you for the hospitality! *mwah*), and contributing to local economies along the way there and out
  • Driving to MD, contributing to more local economies, and not succumbing to road rage anywhere along the way when traffic was nerve-frayingly awful
  • Attending the Maryland Renaissance Festival, supporting the arts and vendors
  • Giving Xander time with his grandparents and cousins while we attended my reunion, where a genial time was had and snarky comments to a former tormentor and a random drunk dude were heroically refrained from by me :-}
  • Getting some extra sleep this morning, spending quality time with family and turtleduck, and heroically refraining from tranquilizing the dog or the toddler when they were acting up
  • Mostly managing to restrain my annoyance in dealing with said toddler's Very Two Tantrums resulting from refusal of most food offered to him and from his one extremely truncated afternoon nap...go me!
Day 14:
Today's "more useful than Congressional Republicans" includes doing laundry, playing outside with Xander, driving up to PA, and narrowly avoiding getting killed by some fucking asshole in a van who cut us off with mere inches to spare in order to get to an exit we were just about to pass.

Day 15:
In today's annals of usefulness, we drove from the greater Philly area to home, stopping in NYC along the way and trying some old and new favorite foods, enjoyed the fine weather, made it home in one piece, and didn't at all hold the entire national and world economies hostage over failed policy fantasies. Go us!

alexander, government shutdown, travel, toddlerhood, family, friends, driving, politics, shopping
