Yep that's right folks. Yours truly is getting hitched! Eric and I are going to be planning a winter 2011 wedding. Wow, I can't believe I just typed that. Now on to the proposal story....
Easter Sunday April 12, 2009:
Easter is my favorite holiday. I love having a big Easter feast and lots of candy. So the day started out just like any other holiday.....crazy. We went to a party the night before so we were in no mood to wake up at 7am to put on our Easter best. We had to be at 10am mass in Cambridge so I rushed to make myself all pretty for the day. We were both comatose during the car ride from Westport to Cambridge. I don't think we said more than 5 words too each other. When we got to the city we drove by the Museum of Science. He suggested that we stop by to say hello to the dinosaurs on the way back. I'm sure nobody really goes in to wish them a happy Easter. We had just purchased a membership there so it would be free to just stop in for a few....
I was awake by the time we got to church. His cousin is the pastor at the church so he said mass and was holding a big lunch for his family after mass. After it was all over we headed over to the reception hall and have a huge and delicious Portuguese feast. There was a big cake and his cousin dropped it. Hahaha. Oh that note we decided to leave.
We got to the museum and went almost immediately to the dinosaur exhibit. We walked around for a bit before ending up in front of Cliff, the museums new and rare triceratops skeleton. We stood there for several minutes just looking at. Well, me being a freak, I talked to it. Eric kept asking me if I really loved him to which I kept replying of course! He seemed a little off but I thought nothing of it. I was more interested in all the dinosaurs. After when seemed like 4 hours in front of the dinosaur I turned to him and asked him if he was ready to leave. He nodded and I said bye to Cliff and told him that I would be back soon to see him. Eric looked at me and said, "we have to come back because this is a special spot". That's when he got down on one knee and that's when I almost faint. I kept repeating, "what are you doing". Then I say, "Oh my god I'm going to faint". He stands back up and asks me if I'm okay. I catch my breath and say that I'm fine to which he replies, "Good. Because I'm serious". He gets back down on one knee pulls out a ring and simply says, "Melissa, will you marry me". I almost fell over. It took me a good 10 seconds to say yes. He put the ring on my finger and I scream, OH MY GOD! People were definitely watching. Haha. After I'm able to form a sentence we take a seat next to the sedimentary rock exhibit so I can catch my breath. Besides I need to check out my new bling. My ring is a 1.25 carat canary yellow diamond set in white gold with baguette diamonds set into the band. It's absolutely stunning. Eric did good!!
The rest of the day was perfect. Our families and friends are so excited and I couldn't be happier with the response. It was a truly amazing day that I will never forget. Everything was so perfect. On a side note, my brother ended up getting engaged as well! So it was a crazy scene at the Carmine household on Sunday afternoon!
I'm so happy and I will keep you all posted on what's looking like a 2011 wedding!
