gamery geekery

There was a time when myself and a close friend argued over which was the better console. What I came to realise is that I should keep my own console but also own the one that he owned. I never did buy one of the other consoles though. One day I may. Said console was the Nintendo GameCube. A few years on and Sony and Nintendo started a full on war for the handheld market. As a PS2 fan the power of the PSP had me slain. A portable PS2? Oh my god wow. What I now realise is that I like m,any other people had hold of the wrong end of the stick. Sony released a portable PS2 but the problem is I already have a PS2 with the same games on it why would I want a portable version just to repurchase the games? With myself and I suspect many others that was Sony's initial downfall. Then they tried the Grand Theft Auto card. Heh everyone you can buy a rehash of GTA3 on the PSP and its exclusive. Many fools went out and bought the PSP for the GTA experience(mission pack). I was stead fast and held my ground waiting to see if the PSP was actually worth the money or if the advanced GameBoy Advance(Nintendo DS) really was that good. Nintendo released NinchavDogs and the Daily Mail world goes mental. They all want a dog like Paris Hilton so buy the console and the game in droves. Sausage Dog, SHIT Sue, Spotty mental fucker and blonde gun dog. They ate it. Ninteno being savvy were aiming at a market that generally did not buy a console never mind games for it. Following on from this they stumped up Brain Training - how old is your brain? Mine is a 34 year old drunk gamers brain who will kick your ass when it comes to Quake like 3rd person shooter games or anything that requires reactions primary to skill and thought. I'm proud of that fact. I can take "the braking test" and hit the brakes 0.27 seconds after the brake lights ahead of me have come on. Fuck you I've been gaming since I was a wee little bastard. So after a paragraph of wobbly grammer and punctuation the point I was trying to get at was as follows. Tonight I went out with work mates for the first time in a week and a bit. We were out watching the France vs Portuscum world cup match. The match started slow so I got out my NDS and fired up Mario 64 DS. Mario 64 DS has lots of silly little mini games. I didn't see my NDS until the end of the match as my collegues were competing against each other to get the highest score either on the Mario trampolene, turtle curling or the bomb id level. I realised during this evening that there is no way a PSP could hold so many non gamers attention for so long. We are talking about a game that was thrown in for free and it captured them all and resulted in a drinking competition for those that lost.

So Nintendo, well done. I look forward to the release of the Wii. I suspect that I may also buy one. Fun wins out over flashiness.
