Yarn and Wine Tasting at Great Yarns

Last night, I popped by Great Yarns in Raleigh for their yarn/wine tasting. I really don’t understand why this shop has a reputation for being unfriendly! Every time I have been there before, the staff was polite and helpful. Last night they were completely sweet and sociable. There were several regular customers there, and the staff knew all their favorite colors and yarn weights. The staff also made a point of talking to the newer customers, asking what we knit and introducing us around. It was a lot of fun!

The store was set up with a buffet of fruit, desserts, and about ten wines to try. (I had a glass of Malbec from Argentina.) Then they had a table with new yarn samples. There was a card that described the yarn and needles so that you could test knit each yarn. Every one of the 12 yarns in the “tasting” had a completed project on display, so that you could see how it would knit up. They also gave out samples for you to take home.

As a door prize, each customer was given two skeins of Rowan Colourscape Chunky yarn in Carnival. I also got to enter a drawing for a grand prize.

I would absolutely attend another event at Great Yarn, and I’m really looking forward to the yarn tasting at Downtown Knits in Apex on April 16th.
