halogencatWe have successfully completed project "bake a baby"! As most of you know, Danger was born on January 3rd after about 19 hours of labor. No, that doesn't actually equal 19 hours of pain and suffering. My water broke and so we went to the hospital, but my contractions were so small at first that I couldn't even feel them. About the time they started to hurt, I had an epidural and felt nothing. So it was really 18 hours of hanging out at the hospital with my family, and one hour of pain during the pushing phase.
I may be biased, but Danger is completely adorable. He has a full head of blond hair and big blue eyes. He doesn't cry very much for a baby, but still sleeps most of the time. When he does cry, I've found out that he prefers Beatles, Mama Cass, and Lady Gaga songs to lullabies and Andrew Lloyd Weber, at least the way I sing them.
My favorite thing so far, is that Danger makes the Derek Zoolander "Blue Steel" face when he is pooping. It's hilarious! Maybe one day, he can enroll in the "Derek Zoolander School for Kids Who Don't Read Good and Want to Learn to Do Other Stuff Good Too." Danger has also discovered sucking his thumb really early, which is pretty darn cute.
The hardest parts right now are the lack of sleep, which I can mostly push through, and the lack of social outlets. I didn't quite realize how much Mike and I go out and see friends in a regular week, until I spent two weeks at home without working and hardly seeing people. Mom has been here, which helps a LOT (both with getting things done around the house and having someone to talk to), but it is still a huge change in lifestyle that we have to get used to.
Knitting has almost ground to a stand-still. If I keep at the pace of the last two weeks, the Danger blanket I'm working on will be done in about 180 days. It's ok though, Blue Steel is endearing enough to distract me.
