My friends and I just spent a completely schoolwork-free night devouring an entire roast chicken from Franklin's in The Well while watching snippets of Titanic playing on the telly, washing our labcoats at the laundromat, fooling around with the surgical gloves from PBRS (okay we did not actually TOUCH the cadavars with them. These were clean!) .. then watching The Simpsons Movie. Which of course means that now I'm dying with guilt about not studying and with good reason, because I'm about 10 hours' worth of cell bio lectures behind, and when I picked up my Veterinary Anatomy and Physiology handbook the other day to try to read up on connective tissues, I fell asleep for an hour and decided it was high time for lunch by the time I became conscious. TOMORROW. IT IS TIME TO GET SERIOUS.
Animal husbandry practicals! We rotate every week so this week we got to do dog handling (FINALLY) with Patches the greyhound (not showing her face) :( Chelsea the King Charles Cavalier and Chelsea the Springer spaniel (who isn't in the photo) it was SO much fun! We got to pill them - Chelsea the springer spaniel was damn nua and kept lying down so I couldn't pill her properly.. until she finally stood up and tried to make a run for the door. In case you didnt know, and I didn't at first, springer spaniels are INCREDIBLY STRONG. Poor things though I think they weren't very happy about us forcing vitamin pills down their throats but ah well they ARE good for them ;) Anyway i know I look damn gay in the photo, I was trying to smile and get Patches to move out from behind Deb at that point so it isn't my fault!!!
We also had something called PBRS, I forgot what the letters stand for but basically it's a bunch of practical sessions for Anatomy involving dissection, radiography and what we did last week, which was to look at preserved greyhound carcasses to identify their muscles and shiz. It was a bit of a shock at first but really, you get used to it... well, we did at any rate. What we realised was that the dog plus the formalin they use as preserving agents kinda smelt like... goose meat, like it had the same strong smell? It wasn't exactly pleasant and I don't like goose HAHA so yeah it was a bit sickly. Somehow by the end of prac class most of us were feeling pretty hungry which is a good sign I guess because it means we have strong stomachs. I think. I have pictures of what we looked at in class but I don't think I'll upload any here because they CAN be pretty disturbing to some people.
So hmm we actually haven't been doing much else.. except weekly runs to Glebe, grocery shopping a lot, studying studying studying (though it isn't always productive), eating out a couple of times a week.. I swear I'm in LOVE with King Street. I love all it's gorgeous little stationery and book shops, they're so quaint and adorable and I swear once you take a look at the notebooks and shiz they have here, you won't even wanna look at what they have back in Singapore. The cards and notebooks and everything else are SO ADORABLE AND CUTE. :D I'm going to get all my gifts from there so good for all of you, heh!
AND, of course, the Sydney Fish Market :D We ate so much seafood and it was all so good, especially the oysters!!! We're supposed to go somewhere that has mussels (the awesome black ones in a pot that i ADORE) going for half off on certain weekdays so I can't wait for that!
Oh my goodness it is past 3 am and I am beyond exhaustion.. and watching VJ cosiety videos on youtube now. I MISS VJ SO MUCH!!! I want to spend a whole day doing mass dances and reliving Orientation, HAHAHA. Alright it's about time i hit the hay... hope everyone's doing well, even though I do like it here, I'm missing home and my friends and parents and dog a LOT. Night :)
