This morning my son and I got to his daycare early, so we spent half an hour on the playground. At first he wanted to build a sand castle, but he informed me the sand was too dry. He began digging to "see if wet sand underneath." Sadly, the wet sand underneath the dry sand wasn't wet enough to build a sandcastle.
After digging in the sandbox for a while and riding a tricycle, he turned a tricycle on its side and poured sand onto the uppermost wheel. He then spun it to throw the sand off. He repeated this process several times. He began dusting some of the sand away with his hand and spinning the wheel at different speeds. After some time spinning the wheel slowly he got the wheel to the point where the sand was blurred while spinning but not flying off. Once he saw this he pointed at the wheel and announced "Daddy! Colors!"
"Good Job. That's a kind of science called Centrifugal for--"
"Physics!" He spun the wheel throwing some more sand off and began jumping, pointing and excitedly saying "Physics!"
My wife had been napping in the car, and he insisted on showing her what he'd been doing before we went inside to drop him off.
