Contaminated tattoo pigments.

For everyone who's had a tattoo done recently, or about to get one: check manufacturer and batch number of the pigment!

The Voedsel en Waren Autoriteit (VWA) (similar to the FDA, but Dutch) have issued a warning that tattoo pigment Starbrite Colors with batch numbers 7996988 en 7996989 contains the bacteria Pseudomonas and an as yet unidentified fungus.

Pseudomonas can cause serious infections if it enters the bloodstream. People who have recently had a tattoo done are advised to keep careful watch and visit a doctor at signs of a skin infection or illness with high fever.

The VWA was alerted to the problem after a report from the Czech Republic about fungus in this particular batch of tattoo pigment.

Local interest: The VWA has a 24 hour free hotline where you can report potentially dangerous foods & consumer goods. Or you report through their website.
