Hiatus of my LJ hiatus.
I've had an original thought. I think. Maybe?
On The Difference Between Fanfiction And Original Fiction
Original fiction requires exposition about who these people are and what they are doing here, not to mention where 'here' is, and why I, the Reader, should care. Hopefully this information will be woven into the story seamlessly, but even so, a lot of this information will come at the beginning of the story. The reader starts out knowing nothing about the characters and goes through a process of slowly finding out more.
To write good original fiction, you have to enjoy this process, enjoy doing a long, slow striptease where the reader catches tantalizing glimpses at first and then slowly gets rewarded by seeing more and more of the characters.
Fanfic readers and writers want to skip that part. Exposition-wise we're all 'yeah, yeah, just get naked already and get to the good stuff!'.

There may be a further hiatus of my LJ hiatus when I tell of my adventures meeting more people from LJ (Yay!).But I'd have to sit down and write it first, so we'll see.
