Room 407, Early Monday Afternoon

Jun 04, 2007 13:20

Mikey was in the dorms. The dorms were shiny. They had indoor plumbing and hallways and actual doors and windows and all kinds of things that one didn't have in a sewer ( Read more... )

Rikku had made several trips back to room 308 - her room! which she had missed so very much, because it had a Hermione in it and Hermione was awesome! - and after the last one hopped up the stairs to room 407, which she had missed in entirely different ways for entirely different reasons.

Oh, room 407. What a great place it was. And there were noises from inside, which meant it already had her favorite-Jude-ever in there puttering around.

A normal person would have knocked.

Rikku cracked the door open an inch and leaned against it playfully, calling through the opening. "Excuse me! Hello in there! I'm in need of some assistance, please? I was hoping to find a cute skater, as I am in desperate need of prolonged smoochies. Do you perhaps know where I might find one, that I could get him alone and do simply unspeakable things to him?"

She tried not to giggle madly. And failed.

Mikey looked from the door to the skateboard and then to the door again.

He blinked.

"Well, dudette," he said at last, "while I, like, totally fit the 'cute' and 'skater' requirements, I'm afraid that I barely know you, you know? And maybe unspeakable prolonged smoochies could wait until possibly a few more naked mutinies down the road, or something."

Rikku threw the door the rest of the way open to see the very-not-Jude Mikey.

That would be when she screamed.

Mikey hadn't been screamed at in a while.

He boggled for a moment, searching his brain for the proper response.

And then he screamed back.

"I'm so sorry!" Rikku was flailing. And she was a champion flailer. "I thought you were Jude! I thought this was Jude's room! Hang on, isn't this Jude's room? Why are you in Jude's ... OH! Roommate! You're his roommate?! He didn't tell me he was getting a roommate! I didn't know! I thought you were Jude! I'm so sorry!"

If only she could shut up. Or, you know, if rabid dogs could come by and drag her off, or something. That'd be good, too.

Mikey flailed back. So far as the flailing olympics went, he was at very least a bronze.

"Roomie, dudette! I'm, like, totally new in this room, so I gotta be his roomie and I totally woulda told you if I knew you'd come in here makin' kissyfaces and I-" Blink. "Dude, Jude-dude is my roomie? Awesome!"

"I promise, I promise, I promise I wouldn't have just come in here all 'woo hoo hoo' or whatever, I just thought you were Jude and I was going to tease him because he's cute when he flails - OH! Not like you aren't! But not like that! And! I'm sorry! I gotta ..."

The flailing was threatening to set new world records, here.

"Yeah! I mean, yeah, I mean, hi! Mikey, right!? Whoa, that's gonna be cool, because you're all, and he's all, and that's perfect! And I swear I'm not usually like this and he hasn't had a roommate since, like ..." Her face froze suddenly. "Oh. Oh, yeah. Roommate." And then she tried to perk herself up again. "Nothing! I mean! That's gonna be great, yeah?!"

"I, uh, I should totally go, or something, right? Yeah! Uh, yeah? Maybe!?"

Mikey did a great deal of boggling, giving up on the flailing when it became apparent that he had no hope of outdoing that.

"Totally great," he said, staring dumbly at her.

Great with a capital 'WTF.'

"See you around or something, then? Uh. And stuff?"

Rikku facepalmed. And turned and left without saying another word.

About five minutes later, there was a tentative knock on the door, and Rikku poked her head around, still blushing pretty badly. "Uh, hi. Can I ... come in for a second? No screaming. Honest."

"Come on in," Mikey said, in the process of trying to plow a pathway through the sea of stuff to the window in case he had to make a ninja-esque exit. Just in case.
One could never be too careful.
"Screaming bad, company good?"

"Screaming ... yes. Bad. Very bad." Rikku took a deep breath and tried to be way, way less mortified than she felt. "Okay. Uh. Lemme start that over ( ... )

Mikey took a moment to let all of that sink in.

Dude. Jude-dude's dudette was a talker.

"I think I'll forgive you this time," he decided at length, "by virtue of the fact that you wear orange, and that makes you totally radical. Okay?"

Rikku laughed. Still mostly bright red. "Okay, then. Dude, I wear lots of orange. People kinda look at me funny but hey, I don't mind that. Gives 'em something to look at, right? We orange-lovers gotta stick together."

She surveyed the mess. "I don't know how it gets like this. He, uh, I'm sure he would've cleaned or something if he knew you were coming, or whatever? Or might have? And there is a bed there, promise. I've seen it."

She squeezed her eyes shut. "Okay, did that sound as bad as I think it did? Because it's not like that or anything? And, uh, wow. I am so bad at this."

"Heh- naah, it's cool," Mikey said with a grin, waving a hand at her dismissively. He was a very forgiving turtle. "I'll find the bed at some point, I think. Think you could point me in the right direction, at least? Over there, or over there? Or under that stuff over there?"

Rikku chewed her lip, thinking. "Okay, if he didn't move it? Then when Bayla was here, it was ... over here." She started moving random debris out of the way, carefully. "Like, this general area, around that point to the wall right there? I can't imagine him moving it since then. Right? So it should be here."

She eyed the mess again. "I hope so, anyway."
