"I will squeeze the life out of you"? That's ROMANTIC?

Somehow I managed to rip the live tracks off 'Royal in the Afternoon', so I can give you all the 2002 live recording of the Whitlams' No Aphrodisiac: http://www.mediafire.com/?1hsg0ofl71ng8bx

I love this version best of all because it has an instrumental bit at the start that feels like tumbling into somewhere dark and solid, and because it's one of those performances where Tim starts improvising lyrics after the 'kinky classifieds' section, and it goes from the detached, disinterested 'forty, shaved, sexy' bit to this incredibly raw and needy 'I want you' bit before he goes back to the 'she makes me suck his finger' bit. Anyway, I love it and want to roll around in it forever.

I think everyone who reads this must know by now that I am crazy in love with Australian music, past and present, so you can see how it was a nice surprise to turn on Max this morning and hear that they were having an Australian Classics playlist this morning. However, it does force me to admit that we all have our heretical moments.

I really can't stand Hunters and Collectors.

Well, okay, I don't mind 'Holy Grail' when I'm drunk and hanging out with footballers. But I don't like 'Throw Your Arms Around Me' at all. Don't like the tune and I think the lyrics are creepy. "I will come for you at night time" and "I will squeeze the life out of you" in particular.

I don't like Kylie Minogue's music either, but I think a lot of Australian music lovers will forgive me that one.
