A non-angsty update

Oct 06, 2008 04:34

I just looked back over this journal and realized that A.) I don't post very often (surprise, surprise) and B.) looking at just my LJ, you'd think I was a terribly angsty person. And I'm really not, not now. Sooo...here it is; An angst free update:
I'm back at school and back to being horribly busy as a result. I finally got around to actually declaring my major officially, so I am now a brand new member of the Sociology department. Let's here it for being flat broke and living in a cardboard box after graduation!! Oh well, at least Sociology is something that really truly interests me and most of the future jobs in the field involve helping people, and this is one of the main criteria for my future career, so that works out nicely. Plus, I'll have plenty of company in my cardboard box; my roomate and most of my other friends are history/english/sociology type majors too.
In other news, I've been helping people make garb for Renaissance Faire, which is coming up in the next couple of weeks. I'm actually getting rather good at sewing, which is somewhat surprising given the number of times I've killed my Mom's sewing machine. The whole Ren Club officer thing is going OK, although I am mildly frustrated that I cannot make everyone else's brains, and thus their organizational systems, work the same way mine does. Even so, the club is a lot more organized this year, and I like to think that I had a fair bit to do with that.
Yesterday, a group of friends from Ren Club and I went up to Castle Wolfhau (the local Society for Creative Anachronism's sort of craft house. Wolfhau is to the SCA what my room is to Ren Club) and we got a chance to do some archery and to play with crossbows, which was a LOT of fun. I really haven't touched a bow much since ninth or maybe tenth grade, so I was a little apprehensive. I did end up making a fool out of myself the first few times, but once I got back in the habit, I improved pretty rapidly. Everything I shot at the end was pretty much hitting some part of the target, at least. I had forgotten how much fun archery is, and God knows it would be a good way to build up my arm muscles. I don't know what the campus rules are on archery on campus though...but I may think about getting some of my own equiptment this spring, at the very least so that I'll have something to do over the summer and to have my own stuff when we go out to Wolfhau. As it is now, most of the people out there are guys, so a lot of the equipment just doesn't fit me properly. I mostly played with the recurve bows; I tried out the crossbows but they reminded me too much of guns, and so they weren't nearly as much fun.
Anyway, I'd better go retreive my laundry from the basement and get ready for class. Hasta Luego
