out of the way section of the preserve: wednesday afternoon

So far, the day had been quiet.

Nathan hadn't really expected anything loud and boisterous but you never really could tell with a place like this. Nathan had retreated to the comforts of the preserve after waking up that morning. He'd been trying to sleep more and more in his room but he still felt better, stronger out here. It was warmer too which meant the sun sliced through the trees, making the ground warm and the air a little muggier than typical.

Nathan liked it. He'd propped himself up on a fallen log with Barry's tablet in his lap. Since he was in the preserve, he didn't feel too self conscious about reading out loud. Today, he was trying a very, very simple story meant for children that were just learning how to talk. He skipped a lot of words but some he actually could read and he felt stupidly happy about that.

Couldn't help it. It was pleasing to know that he could learn even if he was far, far behind most people. It felt good to know he wasn't completely stupid.

[Open, sure, if you're in the preserve]
