Bought a safe

When we bought our house we managed to score a safety deposit box at the bank which handled our mortgage. (Any other time I've asked about a safety deposit box I've been told there's a waiting list.) I think we paid less than $20 a year, and for many years the bank didn't even charge us. Anyway, this year we received a bill for $50 per year and we began to question how much we really needed it. Yes, there's stuff we should be storing in it, but in order to do so we have to make a special trip over during banking hours.

So I did some research. I'd previously looked into safes and was giving consideration to a floor safe, which is basically a steel tube with a locked door on top that gets buried in the basement floor. Good protection from fire, theft & flood, but typically small. And I realized it would be a really good idea if we could but our backup drives in the safe. So I did some more looking and settled (and bought) on the Sentry Safe MSW3110 at Walmart for C$170. It's one hour fire rated and 8" water resistant for 24 hours.

The weird thing is how good a bargain it is. Similar models from the same company at Home Depot & Canadian Tire are over $200 and similar safes from other companies are typically over $300.

Now I'd like to find another firesafe which is small enough to fit inside which I can use for negatives as the safe can get too hot for negatives (or floppy diskettes and video tapes, but who uses those anymore?).
