If that song is now stuck in your head, you may thank me later.

1. Last night I dreamed that HarperCollins published a novel I'd written. I didn't get a look at the title, but the story was Pillars of the Earth meets The Karate Kid. (No, come on, now; let's pause and really think about that.) They'd published it without ever letting me look at a ( Read more... )

I am deeply amused.

(I have, incidentally, mostly settled on Jenett Silver for writing purposes. As cliched as the last one is, at least the last name is something people seem able to spell. There are other good reasons for it, mind you.)

And, you know, at some point after I woke up, I thought, But...she has a last name! Apparently, HarperCollins does not care.

There has always been animosity between the (four?) different groups who have authority at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.

Some day I'll tell you the story of the ladder.

So there is so much animosity between the groups that have control of the Church that they have designated areas that belong to the various factions (mind you, these were designated in 1767). The outside areas are considered common areas, and no changes are allowed to be made.

As Wikipedia puts it,

Under the status quo, no part of what is designated as common territory may be so much as rearranged without consent from all communities. This often leads to the neglect of badly needed repairs when the communities cannot come to an agreement among themselves about the final shape of a project. Just such a disagreement has delayed the renovation of the edicule, where the need is now dire, but also where any change in the structure might result in a change to the status quo disagreeable to one or more of the communities ( ... )

5. Snow! Pretty, pretty snow. Can anyone else remember the last time it started falling this early? 'Cause I sure don't, and I've lived here for twelve years. That statement, um, made me feel old. I should surrender and start all my sentences, "Back in my day..."

I've lived here all my life, and I knew I remember snow in September. A little googling made me remember 1/2 inch in 1985 on September 24.

It was uphill both ways, back then.
