WIDisDead: %$#@*&!!!!!!
Sundays For Rent: hmm?
WIDisDead: I've been changing the strings on my 12ver
WIDisDead: ...for over two hours
Sundays For Rent: I've been having "I feel" conversations for two days.
Sundays For Rent: Fuckin' campus full of estrogen
WIDisDead: alright, how's this?
WIDisDead: I feel
WIDisDead: frustrated as hell, because my fucking E fundamental wouldn't hold tension and kept dead-ing out on me
WIDisDead: and I had to raise the whole bridge 2 fucking millimeters to compensate, and then it still wouldn't play
WIDisDead: and so my action was a mile high on one side, and dead on the other
WIDisDead: and nothing would fix it till I spent about a half hour bringing all the strings to tension
WIDisDead: and now it seems to be doing alright, except the saddle bar is REALLY uneven, and I'm really scared that it's gonna shift too far.
WIDisDead: and it's not like this bridge is in such great condition, but I'm really not anxious to have to replace it any time soon
WIDisDead: oh, and since the new strings I put on were .105-.45 instead of .95-whateverthefuck, that means I'm gonna have to set the intonation, as well
WIDisDead: which means ALL of this could be off, anyway
Sundays For Rent: I have no idea what that means, but I assume it is bad.
Sundays For Rent: And for that I am sorry.
WIDisDead: well, not exactly bad
WIDisDead: but REALLY frustrating
WIDisDead: like, REALLY frustrating

My 12ver strings arrived today. I spent about 2 and a half hours changing them, after which I came to the conclusion that if I haven’t lost my marbles yet, I'm never gonna, cause that was MADDENING! See, the strings I got are gauged .105-.045 (fundamentals) and .044-.018 (octaves,) but I really have no idea what was on there before, since I got the bass used, and to find out what the gauges were, I'd have to contact Jim Morgan in Galesburg, Illinois, and since he sent me the bass in January 2004, I really doubt he'd be much help now. Now, I happen to know that Dean ships these basses strung Fundamentals: .095-.040, Octaves: .045-.018, but since when Jim owned it, he had it slotted for and strung BEAD, he coulda put anything before he shipped it out.
But the strings are on, and they seem to be doing alright. I'm still upstairs, so I have yet to plug in and REALLY hear these strings, but I think they'll sound pretty good. The heavier gauge should darken up my tone a bit, which'll be good, and so far, it sounds like that problem I was having with the G strings sounding harsh/standing out volume-wise is just about eliminated. All in all, I'm happy. (and for $25, who wouldn't be?)

Yesterday I went out with Danielle Koslowski and Sean to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We met up with Jess Davis and various other people at around 6, bought tickets, and then after a rather fun dinner at Friendly's (Sean kicked my ass at dots) we went and caught the 8:00 showing.
So what did I think? It was pretty good. I liked the way they went back to the book as much as possible, but didn't try to change too many of things about the old movie that really worked. For instance, the Oompa Loompa songs were cute, and I appreciated how the lyrics were derived from the original songs in the book, but as songs, they were ultimately inferior to the classics from the first movie. Also, I actually liked the way Wonka was given a back story. Sure it was a vast departure from anything that preceded it, but it also kind of made it fun. Gene Wilder can get away with being crazy for absolutely no reason, but Depp did the psychosis thing pretty well -- it kept the story interesting, in my opinion.
Oh yeah, another thing about the Oompa Loompas. I found it kind of offensive how they all had the same face. I mean, just because they're a different race (species?) doesn't mean they're identical. Do all black people look identical? Hell, do all dogs look identical? No. So why the fuck didn't the Oompa Loompas have individuality?!
Also, what the hell was that all about, making Mike Teevee obsessed with video games? I mean, the whole point is that he loves TELEVISION. Otherwise, his name is no longer a pun, and it's not nearly as fitting that he's caught by his eagerness to be sent by television. I mean...yeah, video games use television sets to show the picture, but this really isn't about the box, people. C'mon.
All in all, though -- I enjoyed it. Not the greatest movie I've ever seen, but a lot of good fun.

Also, listening to those new(ly acquired) records have been too much fun. My Hong Kong cousins stayed the night today, and this evening I played them Meet the Beatles and Simon and Garfunkle's Bookends on vinyl. They really enjoyed it :-D .

Alright, time to tune the bass again, and check that things haven’t moved too far. See y'all later!
