the incredible shrinking food

For several months, I've noticed a disturbing trend among the things I normally buy at the grocery store. The prices are going up, and the sizes of the packages (or the food itself) is SHRINKING. It's been on the news forever how food prices are going up. Fuel prices rise and farmers have to pay more for diesel to run the tractors and get the food to the market. Stores have to charge more to pay for fuel for delivery trucks, etc. Guess who gets to pay? Yep. Us.
There are other factors going in, but gas prices are the main cause

Don't forget that farmers are now growing more corn because of the corn prices due to ethanol...that's less planted then for other things like wheat. I work for a company that makes loans to farmers, so I see it. Most of them that I see are doing VERY well right now.

I love how our economy operates on the precept that as farmers/oil companies/etc make more profit, consumers get worse prices and more of the shaft. Go capitalism!
