I never really cared about Pilgrims; I enjoy getting together as a family and eating good food tho. I get caught up in all the gift giving and wrapping because it brings us together, and there's something about surprises, however small, that's exciting

i think the best reward a person can get is the totally unexpected present, which what you might be thinking about.

When you recieve something on a holiday or event you think to yourself "Oh it is because it's christmas / my birthday / chinese new years"

But when someone gives you something on a regular day you're taken back
"What's this for?"

Also it imposes the harder questions when buying for someone not on an event...
Thus I had trouble buying people stuff in china :/. Few people have the "small sub 30 dollar limit animal/TV show/t-shirt" which gives you the gusto to get it for them
