Citizens of the Empire:

Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day...

On August 28, 1963, a quarter of a million people of gathered at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial at Washington D.C., in order to protest the practice of racial segregation 49 years ago. (The practice of racial separation based on the color of one's skin.) It was here that one of the top organizers of the civil rights movement, the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr., (A Christian Baptist minister) stirred the crowds with his famous speech of "I Have A Dream" on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. (It was considered to be one of the greatest speeches in the late 20th Century.)

The racial equality that Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. spoke of in his speech is taken for granted by many people today, but back in 1963, parts of the South in the U.S. still practiced open segregation.
