also... what about those central american legends that said that a white god promised he would come back to them? (granted jesus wasn't as 'white' as many make him look but he was probably lighter toned then the central americans) you can read exerpts from columbus's journal and his shipmates journals that say that the natives rushed out to their ships with food and offerings... later it was explained to columbus etc that the natives thought he was the 'white god' returning.
there's a lot more archaeological evidence that most people realize.
one thing that i ALWAYS thought was kinda weird, even before i learned anything about the LDS beliefs, was why were the greatest ancient american civilizations in central and south america if all people were decendants of people who came across the land bridge? why did these ancients pass perfectly good climates, farmland, timber... great sites to build a great civilization... and go into the dense jungle and build their cities there? in the humid heat etc... it never made much sense to me. seems like more people would have stopped migrating south sooner and started building large civilizations and the greater civilizations would have been further north.... but that's just my own pondering.
