Why I'm not Mormon

1. According to Oliver Hunington, Joseph Smith taught that people lived on the moon.

Explanation: Hunington stated that “The inhabitants of the moon are more of a uniform size than the inhabitants of the earth, being about 6 feet 1 in height. They dress very much like the quaker style and are quite general in style, or fashion of dress. They live to be very old; coming generally near a thousand years. This is the description of them as given by Joseph the Seer, and he could 'see' whatever he asked the Father in the name of Jesus to see.” (Oliver B. Hunington, Journal of Oliver B. Hunington, Vol. 3, p. 166) Brigham Young also taught this as well (See Journal of discourses 13:271).

2. God lives on Kolob.

Explanation: Kolob is the name of the planet where the Mormon God resides (Abraham 3:2-4). According to the book of Abraham, one day in Kolob is equal to a thousand days on earth.

3. No archaeological evidence supports the claims of the Book of Mormon.

Explanation: There is no tangible evidence supporting the archeology and the Book of Mormon. Michael Coe, an expert in Meso-American history, wrote “The bare facts of the matter are that nothing, absolutely nothing, has ever shown up in any New World excavation which would suggest to a dispassionate observer that the Book of Mormon, as claimed by Joseph Smith, is a biblical document relating to the history of early migrants to our hemisphere.” (Michael Coe, Mormons and Archeology: An Outside View, Dialogue 8:46)

4. No Book of Mormon cities have been found.

Explanation: No cities mentioned in the Book of Mormon have ever been found to exist. Indeed “No one had ever heard of Zarahemla, Nephi, Manti, Cumorah, or Mormon until 1830, and still none of the Book of Mormon place names can be positively identified.” (Rob Bowman, How Mormons Are Defending the Book of Mormon, Part III, Christians Research Journal, Summer 1989 p28).

5. An infinite number of gods exist in Mormon theology.

Explanation: There is no limit to the gods that exist in Mormonism. Since all men are believed to be "gods in embryo" (Ensign, June 1993 p10), there can be trillions of men becoming gods. It is also worth noting that since Mormonism teaches that God was a man who was created by a god, and His god was a man who was created by a god and so on into infinity past, it is impossible to get to the first Mormon god.

6. Joseph Smith was not martyred.

Explanation: Joseph Smith was murdered (not martyred) on June 27, 1844. He fired three shots from a pistol smuggled to him and killed two men before his death (See History of the Church 7:100-103).

What's sad is I know most Mormons aren't even aware of all of this. Oh well, ignorance is bliss, eh?
