last night i planted lots o' sweet oats (aka cat grass) after finishing all the repotting. and sunday we're heading to the city's compost site to get a truck bed full of leaf compost for our garden. we dug a four by seven plot in the backyard. and removed all the sod and roots. but i need to add some really rich organic material (the leaf compost) to the soil. it's going to end up a raised bed so after i get all the compost turned into the soil we're going to build a box around the plot and fill it in with topsoil. this is my very first in the ground vegetable garden. i have high hopes, but low expectations. if i can end up with a few green beans at the end of the summer i'll be overjoyed. and maybe a few sunflowers. my parents gave me a bunch of window boxes too. so i'm going to fill those mostly with flowers, but i want one full of strawberries and another with herbs for cooking. jeff finished welding the hammock stand a few weeks ago so my plans for the summer include laying around in it every night drinking mint juleps and listening to classic country on my am transistor radio.
