i've got 30 minutes before i have to commute to the living room

Just checked my journal to see when I posted last and saw that it was from back when my phone died, and it's been over a month since then but feels like at least 6 months have passed. we are living in a weird time vortex or something. [update: i bought a new phone. it's super shiny]

I wanted to comment on the last few episodes of The Mandalorian but i was in head down/writing mode to get my Highlander Shortcuts story done. I was telling
dorinda that this year I had to like, sit on the story, like a hen, hoping to hope that the damn thing would hatch lol. it needed to cook for a while. Anyway! I finished in a marathon sprint on Sunday. woo. [update: happy birthday, duncan! also you're still cute. love you]

big announcement: i removed spn from my blacklist on tumblr. i don't even know who I am anymore. a fan of the spn fandom? a casual viewer? the memes are hilarious. i'm fascinated by the entire thing

There is much I would like to talk about but do not have the time just now, so, how about that baby grogu, huh? [funny: haha spell check wants to change grogu to gorge]

~ Luke! I love that one post on tumblr that was like "*sees x-wing* oh my god; *sees gloved hand" Oh My God, *sees green lightsaber* OH MY GOD.

~ I knew a Jedi would have to make an appearance in the final episode is some capacity, since the baby had sat on that stone and did the beam of Force or whatever. It could have been a few different choices - ahsoka, ezra, that dude from the video game, an original character, LEIA -- but it was very satisfying that it was LUKE. That was the best 10 minutes of Star Wars in ages (some of the arcs in the animated series were just as good IMO), and the most fun I've had watching TV in a while. Not quite as much a religious experience as seeing Steve call Mjolnir in Endgame (nothing will ever compare to that), but still great. The entire sequence of Luke cutting through the dark troopers is right up there with Darth Vader's appearance in end of Rogue One. *chef's kiss*

~ it pretty much had to be Luke. Ahsoka would have made sense too but she clearly has better things to do. Ezra they are keeping for something else, likely the Ahsoka live action series--grand admiral thrawn showdown (watch Star Wars Rebels for that story line!)

~ if I had time I'd do a primer on the whole mandalorian - dark saber - big plot points from TCW and Rebels - who is the rightful ruler of mandalore - but I do not. Quickly though -- Sabine gave Bo-Katan the dark saber once before to rule mandalore. why can't she take it from Din now? why let moff gideon have a say in something that has nothing to do with him? this is why The Mandalorian drives me nuts.

~ saying that, i'm all for Din being the rightful ruler of mandalore! ya hoo! of course he doesn't want that. i mean who would. only Bo Katan because she's actually legitimately the only one who should and could rule mandalore. ugh. mandalorians. they are such a pain. truly. [aside: if bo-katan ends up ruler of mandalore again she better not lose it a third time]

~ they better establish that grogu escapes kylo ren's psychotic break when he kills all of Luke's students or I will start flipping tables

~ also will SOMEONE, preferably a character on the show, talk about the fact that grogu is over 50 and still not verbal? like how is anyone going to train that little guy if they're going to die of old age when he's going to be barely older than a kindergartener by the time he's 90????

~ saying all that, i imagine that yes, grogu is still alive by the time of Rise of Skywalker, and so is Din, thank you very much, and Grogu is either on Dagobah happily eating frogs in Yoda's old hut or flying around with Din causing mayhem and killing dragons everywhere they go. [i'm sure that JF and DF probably have plans for those two in any case, so i'm not going to spend too much time worrying about grogu's fate.]

~ all in all I thought season 2 of The Mandalorian was okay. Many rather dull episodes but still a fun watch. It's a gorgeous show. Its strength lies in interesting characters and great set pieces, which carries it through some rather lackluster episodes. Of the season, I liked the first episode, the Marshal (naturally, I mean, it had Timothy and Pedro fighting a dragon. Come on.), i liked the episode directed by Robert Rodriguez with Boba Fett and Fennec who is my newest favorite, and the final episode was GREAT. honorable mention to the one ep where Din had to take his helmet off to be scanned by the computer.

~ one last quick word about Ahsoka. She is my favorite character in Star Wars, sometimes tied with Obi-Wan. But for me, no one is better than Ahsoka. Not even luke or han or anyone. Not even Obi-Wan. She is it. And i loved her in her one episode this season, but i think they should have waited for her to appear for the first time in live action in her own series. What was the point of that episode? nothing. just to tell Din about the jedi temple. also i'd be nice if they got her lekku and montrals right. just, you know, why bother at all????
