all the news coming out of San Diego

I was TRYING to write but like one casual scroll through tumblr yesterday and I might as well have been at Comic Con lol.

Though I have been to Comic Con a couple of times, for a like a day only, and both times it was the most overstimulating experience I have ever been through, that I will only subject myself to again if it's for work.

Spoilers ahoy.

I was already spoiled for the Data and Seven of Nine reveal, but I did watch one trailer for the Picard show and it looks pretty cool! Though I don't trust trailers lol -- trailers always look cool.

But still! I've been a bit so so on the whole Picard tv show, mostly because I like closed canons okay, and I don't trust hollywood and writers and whatnot coming in and making a mess of something that's already been done for 20 years! But I DID love that the show appears to be a search for Data premise, at least for part of it. It doesn't look particularly Star Trek-like to me (another minor pet peeve, it's all flashy fx now!) but I don't know how much I really care lol. It looks fun! I remain ambivalent, because, eh.

But yay for Data! I spent a good part of my teens with a crush on Data. :D

True story -- Brent Spiner is, you know, a theatre dude, so once I started working in theatre in NYC, Brent Spiner stories ABOUND everywhere. He is a big weird (very weird, I gather), funny trivia loving theatre nerd. Also, if you work in theatre, you will see Brent Spiner. And I did! More than once, but I remember the first time because I was at some fancy party and Brent Spiner was there and I was like okaaayyyyy no big deal it's just Data it's all good. And it was! He's kind of shy and just smiles a lot, with those big eyes of his. <3

And then all the Marvel/MCU news came like stampeding buffalos lol. Can a girl catch her breath?

There was too much going on for me to comment on specifically so I will just mention jaw dropping stuff. Suffice it to say all of it (ALL OF IT) was to my liking. :D And all of it made me happy to one degree or another. Of course, at this point in my MCU tenure, I am really just riding the wave post Infinity Saga for as long as it will carry me. I was in it for Steve (and those he connected with), so now post Endgame I'm in it to just enjoy the movies and tv shows however they are. And I'm still in it for Steve, of course. <3

Not having very many strong opinions on any of it makes enjoying all of it a lot easier! Canon is going to go into all kinds of wacky places, but one of the best gifts Endgame gave me was canonical alternate timelines, so it's all good. The canonical alternate timelines help with my desire for closed canon haha.

Thor 4: More Thor ~ No one anticipated that the 'more Thor' part would actually be Jane Foster as Thor! At first I was dumbfounded, then I was intrigued, and now I'm thrilled lol. I love Jane, so sue me. Though I do sympathize with everyone who's rolling their eyes at the news -- I know she wasn't hugely popular.

(I don't want to laugh, though I do think it's funny how it was yay Taika directing! More Thor! he can do anything! and then a week later it's no not her! why does he hate us. haha. whiplash)

Taika is an unconventional writer and director -- his films are shaped differently than typical hollywood fair, his stories have different sensibilities, he marries humor with action and character development, he an be heartwarming and he can be irreverent, he writes and directs from the POV of a person of color and someone outside the hollywood system, he doesn't do romance as it is normally thought of. In Thor and Thor: The Dark World, neither film knew how to write for Jane properly when it's really a Thor and Loki origin film or a Thor fights monster film -- sort of half love interest/half plot device/a pinch of science, and she could never stand on her own. Jane shone best when paired with Darcy, sort of odd couple-ish. With Thor, their chemistry wasn't particularly challenging, and slightly miscast. None of this is Jane's fault, and I thought Natalie did a great job with it. Anyway, whatever else it will be, with Taika at the helm both writing and directing, it will be different! And I appreciate that.

But, the news wasn't just Jane Foster returning as Thor. NOOOOO. It's also Valkyrie confirmed as KING, and she's looking for her QUEEN. I die. When I read that first, paired with the news that Jane was returning as Thor, I automatically assumed that meant we were were getting a Valkyrie/Jane story and I got REALLY EXCITED. lol. I mean, how cool would that be! But then, I realized it didn't NECESSARILY mean Jane was Valkyrie's love interest. Which is still great, but now I'm invested in Valkyrie/Jane damn it.

And then the other great bit of news:

BLADE, WITH MAHERSHALA ALI.

So Excite.

And of course, all the other great stuff -- confirmations for all the Disney+ series we already knew about (though no confirmation of Rhodey tv show yet?). Yay for Black Widow movie!!! Scarlett looked amazing. And yay for The Falcon and Winter Soldier! I'm particularly excited for the Dr. Strange movie Multiverse of Madness! That title! And Loki! <3 Also someone said something about Young Avengers, but that must not be Phase 4? confused. also Avengers 5? Whatever. I look forward to the Eternals and Shang-Chi, which I know nothing about. :D
