Fast and Furious
Hello my friends! Look at me posting when it hasn't even been a month! CRAY-Z.
I loved the first film The Fast and the Furious. I even own it on DVD, which, I don't know, for me is a big sign of enduring affection. I don't own a lot of movies or TV shows on DVD. I've watched the film a lot, and read fic. But then put it aside.
Saw the second film, which I didn't hate, but didn't really love either. It was fun. But, and I'm sure his ego doesn't need it, but without Vin Diesel, there wasn't much point. I adore Paul Walker, who is like a blond Keanu Reeves, but without Dom there didn't seem much point.
I skipped the Tokyo Drift movie, and still haven't gotten around to it because netflix has it as a very long wait. But, back when it was released, I didn't see the point without Dom OR Brian. Clearly it was just an attempt to see if they could make it into one of those franchises that just keeps making the same film over and over again but without making it true sequels and with different casts each time, like the countless Bring It On films. And, quite frankly, if neither Vin Diesel or Paul Walker agreed to star in it, I was bored.
Then, I guess Vin got over his issues or something, he was back in, and the nearly dead franchise is revived again! Voila! However, I did not go see the 4th film, but that was only because I was really busy at the time. I really wanted to, and it was on my backburner to go see it, but, well, like I said, there was a lot going on. And there's been a lot going on for a number of years now, because I quite honestly do not remember that they made a 5th film at all. I mean, I *really* have no memory of it being released, so this summer when Fast and Furious 6 is all over the intarwebs and news and things, I was like, huh? How in goodness did they get to 6 already??
Now, to be honest, I probably would not have bothered to go see the 6th film if my curiosity hadn't been peaked. I mean, I saw the first two and, while I still have a huge soft spot for the first film, sequels and ridiculous franchises with numbers at the end of the titles just do not, on the whole, produce good movies. amiright? Unless we're talking Star Trek (and even there, quality is not guaranteed! I'm looking at you, JJ)
Anyway, why am I writing all this? I don't know. It's just a tl;dr round about way of saying, I inhaled Fast and Furious 4, and 5, in one night, and then went to an actual movie theatre to go see the 6th film. And I LOVED them all. They are so stupid, but man are they fun.
Things:
~ It's like Ocean's 11 with Cars and More Beefcakes. I'm okay with this.
~ Paul Walker's losing his baby face! He's all charmingly crinkly now.
~ Okay, at no time during either the 5th film or the 6th film did I think Hobbs (the Rock or aka Dwayne Johnson, I wish he would decide already) was nothing short of complete overkill and OTT and just a mountain of a non-acting man who at least can deliver his lines competently. He makes Vin Diesel (who, I'm just going to say right now, I completely adore. Completely. And I forgive him for Riddick. Almost.), who I admit is no Laurence Olivier, look like, well Laurence Olivier. And yet? By the end of the 6th film I was like, all right, he can stay. lol.
~ When Dom and Hobbs were in any scene together, or when they were fighting, I was like, omg with the beefcake, how can they even be in the same room together? Although it is amusing that, as big as Vin is, he's a bit dwarfed by Mr. Johnson.
~ I was severely amused by the thought of Dom/Hobbs slash (is there any?? I'm afraid to ask), because they're so buff, I couldn't even see how they would hug each other. How do they cuddle?? Because, you know they do. Dom's a big cuddler.
~ So glad Letty is not really dead. I was upset. I was also worried Mia was going to die, especially when she became pregnant. Pregnant women tend to die in films! But thankfully, that wasn't the case.
~ I really don't think anyone, including Letty, would have been upset if Elena decided to stick around in a merry threesome.
~ I want to see them be confounded by an automatic shift. The director sure loved showing us shots of they're feet working the clutch.
~ I think Ludacris should be in every film that is ever made, ever. EVERY FILM IN THE ENTIRE WORLD. From now on.
~ I DID NOT LIKE the last five seconds though. Do Not Want! gah. I mean, Jason Stratham is fine. I'm talking about killing Han. WTF. They already killed Gisele, did they have to kill him, too?? sad face times infinity. Maybe he's like Letty and not really dead. :(
~ I liked, possibly loved, all the ridiculous, ott racing and cars and stuff. I did.
~ It amuses me that the news and press all state that the success of the franchise began to turn when they got away from the street racing aspect, because, while the first TFTF film may have been set in the street racing world, it wasn't about that. It was about friendship and betrayal and not letting your past dictate your future, and about owning up to your choices in life. It was the second and third films (presumably, haven't seen TD yet) that were all about street racing. Anyway, it is true the scope of the later films is much larger.
