Oh no.

Paul Newman.

I had the great fortune of meeting Paul Newman once, a few years ago now, when I worked for a well known Theatre company in NYC and he was anxious to get back stage to meet the actors, so I escorted him. I met him and Joanne Woodward, two of the classiest, most gorgeous people ever. They were delightful and I was giddy with excitement over our brief little interlude. I'll never forget it because he called to me from across a crowded room, and let me tell you there is not much that can compare to hearing someone try to get your attention and turning around and finding out that it's Paul Fricken' Newman. I blinked at him for a moment, completely stunned, until my professionalness kicked in. It's still a story I like to tell. Another friend of mine at the time met Paul at some event that same day where Paul came up to him and asked him where he could get a beer. My friend gave him the beer he happened to have in his hand and Paul said, "You're my hero," and walked away. For days afterwards I was saying "well you know me and my close personal friend Paul Newman," and my friend would answer, "Yeah, I'm his hero." :)

Whereever you are, thank you Paul, for some of my favorite movies of all time, and for your smile.
