PRESIDENT Barack Obama. It's amazing. I am so, so proud of my country - I really, honestly believe that this will change this nation for the better

I do know that. You have every right to defend your ideals, everyone does. What bothers me is the ones (on both sides) who are so hell bent on getting what THEY want that they refuse to even try to find a compromise.
Everybody wants cooperation when the goal is one of their own. I remember talking about something similar on election night, when they were talking to people who were in states of rapture because now we were one America, and now America was going to be soooo much better!!!11 Get real. I'm sure that when the GOP took the White House back from that nasty immoral philanderer Bill Clinton, the Republicans said the exact same thing. That America had spoken and now the country would be back on track to greatness... And no such progress was made. Or if it was, it was progress that only Conservatives would be interested in.
I really and truly believe that Barack Obama wants to work with the Republicans as much as possible, and make strides toward ending the partisanship that keeps this country stagnant. My fear is just that they won't want to even listen to anything he says, just out of sheer spite or stubbornness. The same as many the Democrats have been doing since President Bush was elected.
If the problem people have is with a specific part of Obama's policies, then that's fine, and I respect that. But if people are violently anti-Obama and their only reason is because he's a Democrat - or something worse, like because he's black or because his father was a muslim and he has an unfortunate name or because of some overhyped quote taken out of context, or if they continue to regurgitate something that has been proven and accepted by both sides as not true - then I have a really hard time respecting their point of view.
But then again, like I said, I've always lived in Oklahoma, and it's very hard to feel good about politics when you have been shouted down and disrespected your entire life. If you lived in an overwhelmingly blue state, you would probably feel the same. Around here if you're a Democrat then you are obviously a god-hating baby-killing socialist who wants to take away everybody's money and give it to crack whores, steal away all the guns, and force everyone into a gay marriage.
That's the cynicism, again. Sorry. This is becoming a novel, so I'll stop.
