well a fancy bank/finance company (is there any appreciable difference these days?) called me back after I interviewed with them in October three times, apologized and said they had to hire the other guy because he was friends with a team lead and two of the programmers in the division. but now two spots are opening up and they want to look at me again, or something.
JUST as I perfect the art of beard trimming. I'm pretty sure the last time I shaved this thing off was for my cousin's wedding around christmas.
anyways, it would be nice to work there. three weeks paid vacation to start, three days a week (yes, 5 day weekends), full time salary, and overtime starts at 36 hours. the department head was talking about promoting me to a technical analyst position during my interview for the entry level position. also the whole "two miles from my house, and a downhill bikeride to work every day" thing is a nice feature. oh, and there's a dart rail stop right in front of the building. the bmw doesn't get much use now, but i can probably stretch it's life out another three years if my commute is still walking distance. my last job had me sitting in the car 45 minutes each way. oh and vision and dental. i can't even remember the name of my dentist from high school. i'm probably due.
also they reimburse you for the cost of tuition and whatnot. my friend that works there got his series 7 (stock broker) licence after being there for six months in the same position, and now he's getting ready to move up in the company as well. it's not a bad place to work. also it's on the 44th floor. so the view is nice. it's basically my dream job, with tons of room for advancement over the next 20 years or so. i'm not a big fan of "working for the man" but the benefits are very tempting and after one or two more adventures I will be ready to settle down and i'm not about to pass up this job opportunity. also the people are great, very laid back considering the traditional corporate culture, and i will very rarely be dealing with people over the phone, which is one of my weakest points.
