Friday Recs: The Video Edition

Dec 16, 2010 22:21

I CANNOT COME TO THE KEYBOARD BECAUSE I HAVE DIED OF THE HOTASS. It's a good thing I mocked this up already. (Thank you the_grynne).

A Note from The Management: whomever is hotlinking from my photobucket, knock that shit off. Thanks to you I had to lock up all my photo albums and am one day away from being over my bandwidth. Thanks for ruining shit for everybody else. In short, thanks for nothing.

Moving onward.

This week we're focusing on vids, cause vids are awesome and should always get all the love (I learned proper appreciation from Her Holiness thefourthvine). Personally I'd love to vid, but I do not possess one iota of the required patience to go through all the footage required to make one palatable. I'd need some huge interactive grid where you can grab footage and reorder it. Like Minority Report. And then there is the music. I am very particular about my music (like you lot didn't know that) and there's nothing sadder to me than when I love the way someone edited their video, but the music just leaves me lacking. But there is none of that here.

Fic Recs: Sherlock

The Adventure of the Lover's Nasty Sister by nekomitsu - Dear Jim, please will you fix it for me to get rid of my lover's nasty sister? Dear Jim, please will you fix it for me to disappear to South America? -Sherlock, The Great Game <-- Oh my god, who knew Moriarty would take that shit seriously?! Priceless.

Unusual Symmetry by mresundance -- It is a great thing to find someone you can co-exist with on set terms. It's a rare thing to find someone with whom you can exist on your own terms.

And now to the vids...

Sherlock

Brokeback Baker Street by ImperviousAffinity. Yes, it's been done before, but not quite like this. And I admit I really like this and am totally partial and biased. A toast to ImperviousAffinity cause this is the business.

Goodbye Apathy by turkeyrolls. I confess I am partial to this video because of the song, which I was exposed to about five years back by slodwick when scrunchy wrote a little (mad awesome) story called Chasing Sheppard and Slod did the soundtrack. On it was this group called Republic, later renamed One Republic. You might've heard of them. They did this song called 'Apologize'. I got distracted, what I appreciate about the way this song ties into the video is the way it highlights the way John and Sherlock's lives change when they come together, so you know, goodbye apathy, hello something to give a shit a about.

I wish you would just be real with me by HeartPrism. Once upon a time Dr. John Watson fell in love with Sherlock Holmes. Except Sherlock's not even gay. What the hell is that about? He should just hang himself with his H&M scarf. And if you know what that lyric is from, and even if you don't, I guar-ran-fucking-tee you will love the shit out of this vid. Listen to the lyrics, watch how HeartPrism lines everything up beautifully. I have a whole new respect for [spoilers]'s writing team now.

Untitled 221 by Orangenin. It's a vid. A Sherlock vid. And because there are only three episodes there are only so many clips that can be edited so many ways (unless you draw from Benedict and Martin's other roles) but the right music -- the right music changes everything.

The Social Network

Sometimes people ask me, hackthis is The Social Network really as gay as you imply? To which I can only say, "YES." If you do not believe me I highly recommend you check out Fuck Yeah Mark and Eduardo, where even Andrew Garfield ships Mark/Eduardo (trufax) and the tsn_kinkmeme cause TSN is small enough that it won't eat you alive.

My only issue with TSN is the ending. Namely that the movie was over and there was no more of it for me to watch. I assume the pornographic reconciliation will be in the DVD deleted scenes. Thankfully hirusena911 came along and rectified that. And it's AWESOME.

This video was titled "Mom and Dad broke up! And it was so traumatizing." Okay, that's actually the subtitle. My subtitle. This is actually ...I was your only friend by RuslanaSlastena but it -- oh my god, break out the Kleenex. I'm telling you now.

You know that part above where I mentioned that Andrew Garfield ships Mark/Eduardo? Well I think he ships Andrew/Jesse too. Can You Feel All the Love by Turkeyrolls

Miscellanea

This is a picture gallery for Series 3 of Southland. Yeah, exactly. \o/

Like most people I think of commercials and/or adverts as the time best used doing something else, like, flossing. But the first time I saw this video was at the theatre and I was stunned by how moved I was. How beautiful I thought it was. This commercial is sort of how I think of writing. Of how I hope my writing comes across. I don't need a lot of words, it should just speak for itself. I didn't know Levi's had it in them; I give props to their ad company and the people of Braddock, Pennsylvania.

Music

1. A few weeks back I introduced some of you to the most fantastic Adele and her first single off her new album '21' -- Rolling in the Deep. Last week the proper video was released and oh my god do I love the fuck out of the imagery. This is how a video should be done.

2. If I were a rich man, Ya ha deedle deedle, bubba bubba deedle deedle dum... I mean if I were a vidder I would make a Sherlock video to Dark Matter by Andrew Bird, cause if anything ever said Sherlock fucking Holmes, it's this song.
