I woke up to a phone call from my dad today.  My dog, Ela, developed a severe limp overnight.  She has been in a medical wasteland of problems since January at least, and my family is pretty sure she had a stroke.  My dad is taking her to the vet now.  I'm about 90% certain she is going to be put down in the next few hours.

I have said goodbye to her every day since January, but this still sucks.  1000 miles away from my baby, and there is nothing I can do.  She has had a wonderful few years with us.  From a skittish, emaciated thing that hid in dark bathrooms and tried to run away, to a vibrant, happy dog who would bark until you opened the bathroom door for her.  I am going to miss her terribly.

:(

UPDATE:  As of right now, Ela is still among us.  Her bum leg was caused by dislocation and inflammation around her joints, not a stroke (thankfully).  Hopefully the meds work, and the swelling goes away.  She's too sick in other parts to be put through surgery.
