More Volunteer Stuff

So, I'm about to take on another volunteer thing: the Travis County Veterans Court. It's a "pre-trial diversion program" for vets who are charged with non-violent misdemeanors that may be related to PTSD or other mental health problems resulting from military service. The participants have a caseworker assigned to them through the program, and they get psych and chemical dependency evals, referrals, and monitoring. And participants also get assistance with tings like employment, education, health and housing services.

Which is where I come in. They've literally just started allowing paralegals to volunteer, so I'm not sure that there's a clear definition of what our role will be but from what I understand, it will be a lot of document drafting - occupational license applications, wills, expunctions, child support and divorce stuff, etc. Veterans Court is Thursdays at 5 pm, and I think the majority of the writing will be done on my own time (and then reviewed by a supervising attorney before it's given to the clients, of course).

I'm SUPER excited about this.
