Spring Break

Apr 15, 2009 13:09

(This entry isn't the BEST ONE EVAR as I feel like I've left out stuff and whatnot, but FWIW it's an update and y'all deserve one.)

Tomorrow is the last day of my spring break, which I will be spending in transit back to Boston, so I guess today is more or less the last day of my vacation.

It's been a lot of fun. I spent the first part of it in New York and left with cleaned-up eyebrows, some cute new dresses, malted milk balls from Economy Candy. I discovered the Fables graphic novels, which are really cool, ate some good food and got a bit better at getting around the city (with less time being lost, LOL).

Traveled to SF on Easter Sunday, so my celebration was limited to eating a Cadbury Creme Egg in the DFW airport. Of course, I remembered all of you who are based in the area and wished I could have met up with you, but I only had an hour or so, so there wouldn't have been enough time to do anything.

Anyway, I have spent these couple of days at Leica's in SF and it has been great as well. I've got better acquainted with the area, too, so can walk to the mall if I need to - and I really don't need to anymore because I've done more shopping than is really good for me! I believe I bought things that 1) I need and/or 2) make me happy, and I have not wiped out my bank account, but I have to stop spending so much money especially if I'm going to stay in the US this summer. (I wish I could go home and be with my family, and that is still very much an option, but I need to do what I must to get a good job after graduation.)

Yesterday I had an interview for an internship at the Apollo Alliance. I was not as prepared with answers as I had hoped, but I think I'm getting better at interviewing and believe I was able to more or less show off my communication skills, work experience and awareness of what the organization is doing. It was fortuitous that I got called for an interview while I was going to be in SF anyway - I hope that interviewing in person brought a little something extra to my application. (It got me a tour of the offices, at least!) The people who work at the Alliance seem very nice - the person to whom I sent my application was unexpectedly cute :D - and I felt a connection with the type of work that they do, so let's continue to keep our fingers crossed.

Today I was supposed to meet chrysantza, but something came up so I have some time to relax this morning and will just go out this afternoon. (*hugs* to you, Crystal! I'll definitely be back so we can see each other again then :) ) I definitely need to go to the post office and mail the tax form stating that I didn't earn any money and therefore don't owe Uncle Sam any taxes. I think I didn't do as good a job of this whole tax thing as I should have :-/ but then I've never had to prepare my own return before. I hope I didn't mess up too badly.

money, work, travel
