Nine Things About Yourself

My name is the same one that both of my grandmothers had given to their daughters that didn’t survive. On my mother’s side, that daughter was stillborn. On my father’s side, that daughter died shortly after being born. Neither of my parents knew this until a couple years after I was born when each set of grandparents told them independently.  They just knew they had sisters that didn't make it past infancy.

I was a licensed judge for both Belgium and Clydesdale horse shows. Why? Because I love horses and had it in my head that I was going to be a judge on the show circuit before I discovered that it didn’t pay for crap, and I couldn’t really afford that kind of travel on my own dime.

I love cars - especially classic American Muscle. My dream machine is a 1969 Mustang. I love driving them. I love getting my hands dirty fixing them. I love seeing that look of shock and disbelief when I talk to guys about cars and they realize not only do I know what I’m talking about - I probably know more than they do. Who says girls can’t be grease-monkeys?

I am an avid reader, and generally finish an average of 2 novels per week. Sometimes more, sometimes less, pending my social calendar and workload.

I’ve owned 2 horses. Katie - a sweet little Anglo-Arab that would crawl in your lap to snuggle if you let her, and Grendel - a warmblood mutt with a temper to match his namesake. Both were rescues that I rehabilitated and then sold to “forever homes”.

I used to work in the travel industry as a Travel Agent.  The perks of the job were fantastic; however, the paychecks were barely enough to survive on. If my income weren’t necessary, I’d go back to it in a heartbeat.

I love to road trip.  Getting to and from the final destination should be just as much an adventure as the destination itself.  It’s one of the reasons I hate to fly - to me it’s a very abrupt way to travel and takes half the fun out of the trip.

I used to have 9 ferrets.  Most of them were rescues that could not be in the shelter due to illness, age or inappropriate behaviors (aggression, biting, etc). Some animals you can rehabilitate and send to a forever home - some become part of your family.

All my life I’ve wanted to be a veterinarian. I’m good with animals, know a lot about both small and large animal care, illnesses and treatments … however, a severe allergy to long haired cats, and most rodents killed that dream pretty quickly.  Hard to work in an environment where your job tries to kill you on a regular basis.
