[Take me out to the Ball game]

Mar 15, 2006 22:01

Back alleys and strangers on the street, life in New York City took so much heat. Or something. The lyrics never sat well with Rhovas, as he was more a fan to modern rave music than he was to folk music from Wisconsin. The man sat on the brick fencing to the duplexes on Keplar Avenue wearing no more than the usual billowing silk pants of black. ( Read more... )

Rhovas nods, head tilting as he watches. "My family looks..." A laugh, genuine and reminiscing. "We are not the nicest looking. Some are very beautiful. Others are very frightening to look at."

"But even frightening things can be beautiful. There is good in all things, would men willingly distill it out. I know I've bastardized the line a little, but I think it was necessary."

He nods. "I will not disagree, as those who have chosen a darker side to our life find beauty in what they do. Just as I in fine music and in a sweet face," he smiles, offering it to Lan.

"As long as it's found somewhere." She smiles and turns her head, the feathers cresting up and resettling.

"So then Rhovas, when not talking to lost and wandering ladies, what do you do?"

The smile widens, the man leaning back to gaze up at the top of the bed. At something that might be beyond it. "I like to see the reactions people have to certain situations. A bit of my own modern science. If not on the corner strumming the mandolin, then I can usually be found else where in a large crowd."

"You play the mandolin? It's one of my favourites." She turns a little, trying to see what he's staring at.

"Is it a good life? Do you enjoy it? Watching the reactions, I mean."

"One of mine as well. I was raised on it."

Rhovas glances sidelong at her, watch her trying to find what he was gazing at. "It can be. I try to find enjoyment from it, and do most of the time. Occasionally, my brothers and sisters from the corners will try to make it too serious or too dangerous. It is never fun when the innocent become the injured."

"No, it never is. That also draws too much attention. Or, at least, too much for my taste."

She shrugs and turns back to face him, favouring Rhovas with another shy smile and her scales rippling with colour.

A charming grin finds her, his skin rippling with a similar pattern. The color swirls, flourishing onto his face before running between his brows to sit on the tip of his nose. He exhales, blowing at the glittering color on his nose, and watches as it takes flight as a small glowing moth.

She giggles and watches the moth's flight. Her colours stay bright and her feathers crest up again.

"Could you teach me? Is it possible?"

The smile lowers. "I could, which is both a sad and joyous thought. I would rather not, though." He looks to the side, thinking. "It requires me to take something from you."

"What would you need?" Oh dear, Lan's curious. "I have a few things to trade, nothing too much, but to learn that? I'd be willing to part with some."

Rhovas shakes his head, looking into his lap. "This cannot be something that you easily trade, Lovely Lan."

"What is it? I have a few things that are not easy to trade?" She moves closer and puts a hand on his shoulder - tiny, curious chrrpt?

"Your life," darker eyes look up at her, watching for the reaction. Judging for her panic. "I refuse to take such a precious thing from you, Lan."

Her eyes widen, but she doesn't move away. "It's never anything easy, is it? Don't fret, hmm? I won't give that up."

Would this cause her to panic? Not so much, no. Lan is rather used to interesting people and places.

"It is a shame. You make such beautiful things and I would have loved to learn that."
