[Take me out to the Ball game]

Mar 15, 2006 22:01

Back alleys and strangers on the street, life in New York City took so much heat. Or something. The lyrics never sat well with Rhovas, as he was more a fan to modern rave music than he was to folk music from Wisconsin. The man sat on the brick fencing to the duplexes on Keplar Avenue wearing no more than the usual billowing silk pants of black. ( Read more... )

Lan followed the Hopefully Snakey Person back to this city. She's staying quiet and close to the walls. It's so big here and so many people. One day she'll have to come here when she can pass for human and then she'll explore everything.

"I've never been to the New World. It's...it smells different than I thought it would."

Rhovas leans back, eyes still keen on the game. His attention had been drawn since he'd stepped out. Be it through paranoia or through the gifts granted to him by Caine, the man knew he was being followed. By who, was a different question. Though, he was rather happy it wasn't Miss 'You should die for trying to survive' Hunter.

The man pauses, eyes blurring for a moment before the gentle trickle of light reflected over what might have been scales on his neck. A sort of greeting to the woman who held herself in shadows and hidey-holes.

She smiles again and flickers back. "Hello again. I hope you don't mind, you said we might be able to talk?"

There are still so many people here. It's all so loud and so bright. "Do you have the time? I don't want to break cover - yours or mine."

The man seems to turn, bringing his attention to her and yet never really lets his eyes leave the balls trail before him. Of course, the woman has his complete attention, save for the motion of his eyes.

"It's perfectly fine, Lovely Lan. I have a nook not far from here. Plenty to shade you, my dear."

And the eyes break the scene, seeming to snatch some of the life from those around him and taking it with him. That ability to steal a scene wordlessly. Rhovas smiles, stopping next to her to offer an arm.

Rhovas shakes his head, smiling still. As she grwos more in comfort, as does he, leaning back more.

"I have no city. We have no city. Nomads never have a city, but in such, we are not bound to them. But, no, Lan. You are the first. I find it rather interesting. I know so little."

"...if you're not one of us, then, the scales? How? I'd hoped that maybe you were one of us." A nervous fluttery hand reaches out to where the scales were(are?) and then is drawn back. Aww, sad snakey-face.

His head drops, eyes flicking to the side. "I could never be as beautiful as you, Lan. Caine does not allow it in his breed."

Rhovas watches her hand, letting the trickle of color flow down his neck, flourishing on his chest and arms, swirling in patterns he thought her own might not be able to accomplish. "We all have our dreams, darling. I am so sorry that I may have shattered yours, if only a little."

There is a soft, sad chrrr and she shrugs. "Qué sera, sera. It's not shattered, just a little dented around the edges. Still, that's beautiful. How do you do it?" So he's not a snaky-person, that won't stop her from being distracted by the colours. It's mostly unconscious, but her own scales partially mimic and partially innovated based on his patterns.

"What are you then?" The feathered crest keeps partially flicking up and then resettling.

Rhovas nods, head tilting as he watches. "My family looks..." A laugh, genuine and reminiscing. "We are not the nicest looking. Some are very beautiful. Others are very frightening to look at."

"But even frightening things can be beautiful. There is good in all things, would men willingly distill it out. I know I've bastardized the line a little, but I think it was necessary."

He nods. "I will not disagree, as those who have chosen a darker side to our life find beauty in what they do. Just as I in fine music and in a sweet face," he smiles, offering it to Lan.

"As long as it's found somewhere." She smiles and turns her head, the feathers cresting up and resettling.

"So then Rhovas, when not talking to lost and wandering ladies, what do you do?"

Completely fine by him. Even if he was technically a corpse, he loved it when people played with his hair. Rhovas easily complies to her request, letting the room slip back into the candle lit fantasy of an Arabian Night. The air is warm, not hot like the boiler room. Sweet and breathable, not muggy and suffocating.

An arm slings instinctively around her waist, hand flat to the bed.

"Always. What is your home like, Lan? We never got to discuss it."

"I don't really go home, not very often. During the spring and the fall, I ache to go back. This is the first time I haven't been able to make it. But, for what it's like? Have you ever been to Kashmir? Or Jaipur? Granite cliffs and hills that glow pink with the dawn and high, dark, cold mountains with tiny hideaways for small, fragile flowers."

He has very nice hair and she's more than content to keep playing with it, combing her fingers through it. It's so soft.

"Oh, my. That sounds like Heaven on Earth. I adore places like that. The untouched pristine pockets of the world where life is at it's most beautiful; most simple structure."

"It's not heaven, not at all. But it's home, and sometimes that's good enough." She stretches and twists her back before resettling beside him.

"If you ever do get the chance to see that part of the world, I'd suggest it."
