This is going to sound stupid.... but does anyone know if there's such a thing as USB RAM?

I hate my work laptop, and want more RAM. But they won't install more RAM. So I want to buy a lil stick thing to plug into a USB port that will increase the RAM.

I have NO idea if such a thing even exists... is this wishful thinking?

no such luck.

however, can you simply buy more real RAM and put it in the laptop yourself?

Work Laptop.... I'm not allowed to "modify" it in any way. At least not from a hardware point of view. I can install whatever software I want - I just can't open it up if you know what I mean.

Windows Vista *shudder* has a feature that allows you to use a memory key (USB drive) as a RAM expansion.

Aside from Vista, I don't believe that this option is available in any other operating systems.

even if there was such a thing, i doubt the transfer rate over USB would be fast enough to actually provide you any performance increase.

what you can do is buy a program that will compartmentalize the useage of RAM on your computer and make things work faster.

Here's the thing, I was installing the latest expansion to WoW and it said I didn't meet the RAM requirements (but let me install anyway)

I can still play it, and it's not terribly bad - but it would be nicer if it were faster. So compartmentalizing my existing RAM I don't think will help - I think 504 just isn't enough period, and needs more.
